Job Description: The Volunteer Operations Manager leads all volunteer-driven operational activity within the Food Bank’s Volunteer Center. This role ensures every volunteer shift is well‑planned, well‑executed, safe, productive, and fun, while directly supporting the Food Bank’s mission and operational throughput.
The Manager coordinates project workflows, prepares workstations, supervises shift leads, fosters a positive volunteer culture, and collaborates with Warehouse, Inventory, Procurement, and Production teams to ensure volunteer labor meaningfully contributes to organizational goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Shift & Project Planning
- Plan and assign operational projects for each volunteer shift based on warehouse needs, production goals, and inventory pipelines
- Coordinate project requirements and timing with various internal stakeholders including Warehouse, Procurement, Culinary, and Community Impact.
- Establish consistent expectations and rhythms for shift prep, execution, and closeout
- Oversee proper storage, tracking, and movement of product used for volunteer projects
2. Shift Leadership & Volunteer Engagement
- Lead volunteers through an engaging, mission-centered experience while ensuring productivity and quality expectations are met
- Provide clear instructions, hands-on coaching, and positive energy to create a fun, welcoming, and safe volunteer environment
- Ensure shift leads are prepared, aligned, and confident in facilitating volunteer groups of all sizes
3. Team Management & Culture Building
- Supervise, train, schedule, and coach Volunteer Operations Coordinators
- Build a strong team culture grounded in communication, accountability, and service to volunteers
- Maintain safe workspaces that meet all food safety, AIB, and warehouse operating standards
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
- Experience in warehouse operations, volunteer coordination, production, service industry leadership, or similar roles
- Strong group facilitation skills with the ability to motivate and coach volunteers and staff
- Ability to plan workloads, manage multiple shifts, and coordinate across departments
- Understanding of or ability to learn food safety, AIB requirements, and warehouse operating standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse volunteer populations

Physical / Other Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in an active warehouse environment
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods during volunteer shifts
- Occasional evening or weekend shift coverage

- Must pass a drug screen and background check.
