Job Summary
The Victim Advocate Volunteer provides direct support to victims of crime through on-scene crisis intervention, guidance, and connection to community resources. Volunteers work under the supervision of the Victim Advocate Coordinator, who reports to the Prosecutor''s Office. This is a volunteer position; no compensation is provided.
Volunteers respond to domestic violence incidents, sexual assaults, and death notifications, assisting victims in navigating immediate needs, referrals, and accessing resources.
Job Description
Essential Duties
Respond to crisis calls during assigned on-call shifts (starting at 6:00 PM daily M-F, on call on weekends, will include all 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday)
Provide immediate needs assessment and emergency assistance
Offer resource-based support and guidance (not therapy)
Maintain professional boundaries while delivering compassionate support
Document all on-scene responses in VSTracking
Prepare accurate reports and case summaries
Maintain confidential records and documentation
Uphold professional appearance by wearing designated Victim Advocate Volunteer attire
Attend in-person interviews and HR meetings as part of the screening process
On-call shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays
Volunteers respond directly to crisis scenes, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and death notifications
May accompany victims to hospitals or other locations as requested
Requires ability to handle emotionally intense situations and maintain composure
Must be able to travel safely to scenes and drive responsibly
Requires standing, walking, and sitting during shifts and documentation tasks
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years of age or older
Pass a standard background check through West Jordan Police Department
Attend an in-person interview and meet with HR
Demonstrate reliability, emotional stability, and commitment to the mission
Training:
Complete all required training prior to independent response:
Crisis intervention and trauma-informed care
Confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Documentation procedures in VSTracking
Shadow shifts with experienced personnel
Participate in ongoing or annual refresher training
Participate in the 40 HR training, This forty-hour training qualifies participants to provide direct services to all crime victims in Utah. The curriculum follows standards set by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and covers a wide range of topics including 16 hours of foundational training and 24 hours of crime specific training. It is also an approved training for the National Advocate Credentialing Program
