Wagner Farm Volunteer

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

We offer a variety of fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities where you may assist farm staff with:

  • Livestock feeding and barn cleaning
  • Planting, weeding, harvesting, washing & packing vegetables and flowers
  • Farmers Market setup and takedown, collect wagons, greet shoppers & answer questions
  • Special Event volunteers lead games and activities, help with foodservice, admissions, setup, and promote a positive, welcoming environment
  • Educate visitors with artifacts and activities as a Cart Activity Leader
  • Greet visitors outside, answer questions, and direct them to points of interest
  • Help visitors interact with new exhibits and comply with museum rules
  • Maintain and repair antique tractors and farm equipment
  • Skilled special projects in carpentry, painting, sewing, welding

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must be dependable, punctual, and wear appropriate attire. Additionally:

  • Most positions require applicants be age 16 and up, while some allow volunteers as young as 13 years old. All livestock volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to listen and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and age levels
  • Friendly and polite demeanor in all interactions with the public
  • Be comfortable working outside
  • Some positions require bending, stooping, crouching, and heavy lifting
  • We will train volunteers for all positions except skilled special projects

SCHEDULING

All shifts are scheduled in advance so that staff and supplies are prepared.

  • Farming is seasonal and so are volunteer opportunities. Most are offered May through October, and just a few run all year round.
  • Most positions require a commitment to at least 2 shifts per month. Shifts range 2-6 hours long.
  • Many volunteers choose to serve weekly
  • All volunteers complete an orientation and training session
