With healthcare delivery systems in 32 distinct markets across 12 states, CHS operates 60 affiliated hospitals with more than 8,000 beds and approximately 800 other sites of care, including physician practices, urgent care centers, freestanding emergency departments, imaging centers, cancer centers, and ambulatory surgery centers.

OUR VISION

To make the healthcare experience exceptional for our patients, our communities, and each other.

As Vice President of Ambulatory Services, you play a critical leadership role in advancing our Vision across all Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This executive position drives strategic growth, operational excellence, and high-quality, patient-centered care-while ensuring strong financial performance and innovation across the ambulatory network.

What We're Looking For

The Vice President, Ambulatory Services is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial leadership of the organization's multi-state portfolio of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). This executive role oversees large-scale, multi-site ASC operations, aggregate portfolio P&L performance, joint venture (JV) partnerships, acquisitions, and de novo development while ensuring clinical compliance, quality care, and patient safety across all markets. The Vice President collaborates closely with physician owners, health system partners, localized governing boards, and ASC facility administrators to maximize regional EBITDA, optimize operating room (OR) utilization, and drive sustainable volume growth.

Essential Functions

  • Multi-State Strategic & Operational Leadership: Provides executive oversight for all ASCs across the multi-state footprint, driving operational standardization, scalability, multi-market harmonization, and an exceptional patient care culture across the entire corporate portfolio.
  • Physician Partnership & JV Governance: Serves as the primary corporate operational liaison for all ASC joint ventures. Sits as a voting representative on multiple distinct ASC Governing Boards, manages relationships with diverse cohorts of physician owners, and leads matrixed physician equity syndication and recruitment efforts.
  • Enterprise Financial & P&L Mastery: Owns portfolio-level P&L and Adjusted Operating Profit (EBITDA) across all states. Drives revenue integrity, optimizes cross-market labor productivity, manages scaled supply chain economies, and collaborates with payer contracting on market-specific reimbursement strategies.
  • Portfolio Growth & M&A: Leads geographic expansion, ASC acquisition, integration, and de novo development activities. Identifies macro-market opportunities to expand high-margin, high-acuity service lines (e.g., Orthopedics/Total Joints, Cardiology/Cath Labs, GI, Ophthalmology).
  • Performance Metrics & Innovation: Implements advanced, real-time data analytics and standardized KPI dashboards to monitor key metrics (OR turnaround times, on-time starts, cancellation rates, and utilization) across all facilities to identify and remediate underperforming sites.
  • Multi-State Quality & Continuous Survey Readiness: Partners with Medical Directors and Clinical leaders to ensure strict compliance with CMS guidelines, state licensing frameworks (including Certificate of Need regulations where applicable), and accrediting bodies (AAAHC/The Joint Commission).
  • Talent Pipeline Development: Mentors, coaches, and develops a high-performing pipeline of ASC Facility Administrators, Regional Directors, and site leadership teams across the multi-state footprint.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Nursing (MSN), or related field - Required
  • 10+ years of progressive executive leadership in ambulatory services or surgical operations, specifically including multi-site, multi-state oversight of 10 or more centers - Required.
  • 3-5 years of direct experience managing complex Joint Venture (JV) partnership models across multiple independent physician-owned facility boards - Required.
  • 1-3 years of experience with ASC acquisitions, syndication, and de novo start-ups - Preferred.
  • Clinical Fluency: background as a Registered Nurse (RN) or perioperative clinical leader - Preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Multi-State Regulatory Acumen: In-depth understanding of varying state legal frameworks, CON (Certificate of Need) laws, safe harbors, compliance rules regarding multi-site physician ownership, and regional managed care contracting.
  • Advanced Executive Presence: Exceptional talent for building credibility, transparency, and trust across geographically dispersed and culturally diverse cohorts of independent surgeons, anesthesia partners, and health system executives.
  • Macro-Operational Metrics Driven: Proven ability to manage scaled operations via remote dashboards, turning data into action across multiple time zones regarding OR efficiency, supply cost management, and case-mix index optimization.
  • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with modern enterprise ASC-specific EMRs and centralized scheduling systems

Licenses & Certifications

  • CASC (Certified Administrator Surgery Center) - Preferred
  • FACHE / CMPE (Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives or Certified Medical Practice Executive) - Preferred
