ABOUT THE ROLE
This Vice President opportunity sits within the Capital Management Oversight team of a well-established global financial institution's Treasury Risk Management group, offering independent second-line oversight of capital adequacy, capital management strategies, and regulatory capital compliance across SMBC's Americas entities. The role combines rigorous analytical work reviewing capital ratios, RWA, CCAR stress testing, and internal capital limits with senior-level reporting, cross-functional stakeholder engagement, and active coordination with Tokyo Head Office and other global regions. It's an ideal fit for a capital management or regulatory capital professional with 5+ years of first or second-line experience at a large US bank or FBO who combines strong regulatory capital knowledge with clear communication skills and the ability to provide credible independent challenge to treasury and finance partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide independent oversight of capital ratios and capital adequacy including CET1, Tier 1, Total Capital, Leverage, RWA, leverage assets, and capital buffers across relevant SMBC Americas entities
Execute ongoing review and challenge of capital management strategies and plans;assess compliance with US regulatory capital requirements
Review and challenge CCAR and capital stress testing methodologies and results;review calibration of internal capital limits and targets
Prepare and present capital analyses and reports to senior management, regional boards, and global risk committees as required
Partner with Treasury, Finance, Risk, and Business leadership to challenge capital actions;ensure timely escalation of capital management issues and limit breaches to appropriate stakeholders
Support engagement with regional regulators on capital risk matters related to the second-line oversight function
Promote continuous enhancement of the second-line capital risk oversight framework;ensure proper documentation of team processes and strive for process automation and operational efficiency
Establish collaborative relationships with first-line Treasury functions;provide risk advice while maintaining independence
Build and maintain relationships with business partners and foster a strong risk culture across the organization
Interact with colleagues in Tokyo Head Office and other regions including EMEA and APAC to ensure global coordination on capital risk matters
