Position Overview
The Vice President, Chief of Staff serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Health. This individual will serve as an enabler and force multiplier while being a key member of the executive leadership team. This role supports the CEO in advancing organizational priorities, driving enterprise-wide strategic initiatives, facilitating executive decision-making, and ensuring effective execution of the health system''s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
The Chief of Staff acts as an extension of the CEO, providing leadership across critical organizational initiatives, coordinating activities among senior executives, and fostering alignment across the enterprise. This individual serves as a catalyst for collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence, ensuring that strategic priorities are translated into measurable outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a highly effective healthcare executive with exceptional strategic, operational, communication, and relationship management skills. This leader must thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment and demonstrate the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
CEO Efficiency and Focus:
Serve as chief steward of CEO''s time and energy. Optimizes the CEO''s effectiveness by helping him/her strategically prioritize and delegate tasks, ensuring the CEO focuses on areas that deliver the greatest impact and value to the enterprise.
Proactively and strategically manage the CEO's calendar, planning well in advance for events, communications, travel, internal meetings, etc. as well as sufficient time for decision-making, strategic planning, and reflection.
Filter incoming requests, using judgement to discern which can be delegated, which require the CEO's time and the relevant urgency. Ensure the CEO is informed and prepared with the information necessary for key decisions.
Regularly obtain feedback from the CEO on his/her time allocation.
Management of the Office of the CEO
Directly accountable to the CEO for the effective leadership of the Office of the CEO team and the execution of all relevant functions.
Lead and develop the team within the Office of the President & CEO, setting the standard for discretion, judgment, and execution.
Provide support and handles day-to-day tactical activities within the Office of the President & CEO.
Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Alignment
CEO Communications:
Shape the substance and narrative of the CEO''s major internal and external communications, including system-wide messages, town halls, and physician and community forums.
Serve as an expert on "voice of the CEO," guiding and advising in the development of CEO or CEO-related communications.
Ensuring the CEO''s voice is clearly captured and articulated while consistently aligned internally and externally.
Prepare executive communications, presentations, talking points, briefing materials, and reports.
Lead preparation for executive meetings, board meetings, retreats, and strategic planning sessions.
Conduct research, analysis, and synthesis of complex information to support executive decision-making.
Executive Team Effectiveness and Alignment
Partner with the CEO to structure, run, and follow up on Executive Leadership Team meetings so that they produce real decisions and clear accountability rather than status updates.
Act as an honest broker among members of the executive team, surfacing disagreement early and helping resolve it without becoming a bottleneck or a shadow decision-maker.
Help the CEO calibrate how the executive team is working together, and raise concerns about alignment, capacity, or performance directly and constructively.
Board Relations and Governance
External, Community, and Government Relationships
Support the CEO''s engagement with community, civic, donor, and government stakeholders, helping prioritize the CEO''s external time against enterprise impact.
Represent Atlantic Health, at the CEO''s direction, in select external forums, coalitions, and partnership discussions.
Help translate the regulatory, reimbursement, and public-policy environment into implications the executive team needs to act on.

Salary Range $343,687 - $475,000 base salary only; excludes leadership incentive.
