Location: Bergen County, New Jersey (Hybrid – 4 days in office)

About the Role: Our client is seeking a Vice President, Credit Risk (Commercial) to support risk management activities and provide independent oversight of lending and credit-related exposures across the organization. This role will work closely with senior leadership and business partners to help ensure sound risk practices, consistent underwriting standards, and effective portfolio monitoring.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in credit analysis, risk assessment, and portfolio oversight, along with the ability to provide objective challenge, support governance processes, and contribute to a disciplined risk culture.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct independent reviews of credit transactions and lending activities
  • Evaluate risk factors, financial performance, and overall creditworthiness of borrowers and counterparties
  • Provide balanced challenge and recommendations on credit decisions when appropriate
  • Identify emerging risks and escalate significant concerns to senior management
  • Monitor portfolio performance and key risk indicators to identify trends and potential areas of concern
  • Review changes in risk profiles and evaluate the adequacy of risk ratings and classifications
  • Support ongoing assessment of portfolio quality and concentration risks
  • Contribute to portfolio reporting and management review processes
  • Help maintain strong risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures
  • Support the development and enhancement of credit risk methodologies and assessment tools
  • Ensure risk practices are aligned with internal standards and applicable regulatory expectations
  • Participate in governance committees and review forums as needed
  • Prepare and present risk analysis, findings, and recommendations to management
  • Assist with periodic reviews, portfolio assessments, and reporting activities
  • Monitor market, industry, and economic trends that may impact credit risk exposure
  • Support the development of meaningful risk metrics and performance indicators
  • Partner with business, finance, operations, and risk stakeholders to support informed decision-making
  • Provide guidance on credit risk considerations related to new initiatives and business opportunities
  • Contribute to projects focused on strengthening risk management capabilities and processes
  • Support internal and external review activities as required

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field
  • Significant experience in credit risk, underwriting, portfolio management, banking, lending, or related financial services roles
  • Experience reviewing complex credit transactions and assessing risk exposure
  • Familiarity with risk governance, credit policy, and portfolio monitoring practices
  • Prior experience interacting with senior stakeholders and risk committees preferred
  • Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills
  • Knowledge of lending practices, portfolio management, and risk management principles
  • Ability to evaluate complex information and make sound recommendations
  • Ability to balance risk awareness with business objectives
  • Experience working in regulated financial services environments
  • Exposure to a variety of lending portfolios, industries, or asset classes
  • Familiarity with risk reporting tools, portfolio analytics, or credit monitoring systems
  • Experience supporting policy development, governance initiatives, or process improvements
