Are you in? Primary Purpose:

Lead and guide the Infrastructure Operations and Engineering functional area of Exelon IT. The infrastructure domain includes capabilities for both Information Technology and Operational Technology. Provide the overall leadership to develop and align the IT vision, strategy, direction, and plans for the deployment of information technology infrastructure systems, platforms, products, and services in support of Exelon’s business strategies and objectives. Partner and engage with clients to gain business unit alignment and oversee IT strategy development and execution. Develop and maintain a robust relationship with IT and Business counterparts. Establish a vision for the core IT infrastructure of the company and lead:

  1. Technology Strategy Development
    • Formulate and execute a comprehensive infrastructure technology strategy that aligns with business objectives and drives growth.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  2. Technical Oversight and Project Management
    • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of new technology and enhancements to existing infrastructure systems.
    • Ensure the successful execution of projects on time and within budget through effective project management practices.
  3. Infrastructure and Security Management
    • Ensure the integrity, security, and scalability of the technology infrastructure to support business operations.
    • Collaborate with the Cyber Security team and implement best practices for data protection and
      cybersecurity, safeguarding company and customer information.
  4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Collaborate with other IT areas to align infrastructure technology initiatives with business objectives, ensuring effective communication and understanding of technical concepts.
    • Serve as a key advisor to the CIO regarding core technology investments and strategies.
  5. Performance Measurement and Reporting
    • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of technology initiatives and report progress to stakeholders.
    • Analyze performance data to make informed decisions and adjustments as necessary.

Provide oversight for day-to-day delivery of IT infrastructure systems, platforms, products and services to the other IT areas and Exelon family of Companies, ensuring cost effectiveness, efficiency, security, and compliance in meeting current and future business needs. Serve as a partner to stakeholder management teams as a single point of accountability for all Information Technology related matters. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of IT and Business operations, strategies, and priorities. Provide overall responsibility and accountability for the design, development, operation, and maintenance of all infrastructure utilized in support of business functions. Lead a team of information technology professionals and outsourced service providers responsible for the delivery and support of all infrastructure supporting business solutions and domains including but not limited to:

  • 24x7 Operations Center • Incident Management

Collaborate with IT peers and Business counterparts to maintain alignment and drive successful business outcomes. Align IT decision making with Exelon’s focus on the Customer to provide value, service reliability, and excellent customer service. Lead and guide the Infrastructure Operations and Engineering functional area of Exelon IT. Deliver all required IT functions related to the infrastructure used by the IT Digital Solutions, Operational Platforms, Customer & Corporate Platforms, and other IT functional areas as necessary to design, build, operate, control, maintain, retore, and retire utility assets. Collaborate closely with the IT Architecture area to drive value in sourcing products & services, mature infrastructure architecture, retire technical debt, and develop an IT Engineering and Operations talent pipeline. Direct IT wide operations and engineering of platforms, networks, data centers and telecommunications infrastructure to ensure reliable, cost effective and efficient services are provided to meet business needs. Provide support for all corporate, enterprise and business unit specific systems and IT platforms. Manage and coordinate all internal and cloud hosting functions. Develop Infrastructure Services, KPIs, and expose capabilities based on prioritized demand for products and end-to-end business process enablement. Coordinate with IT and business unit leaders to provide disaster recovery and contingency plans for critical business functions across Exelon. Lead the operational support and incident coordination for all enterprise and business unit specific systems and platforms. Manage and maintain the NERC CIP compliance for IT infrastructure across Exelon. Manage the operational reliability of Exelon’s corporate network and Help Desk. Manage a large team of information technology professionals responsible for design, build, operation and technical support of the IT infrastructure, hardware maintenance, information security, change management, wide & local area networks, server infrastructure disaster recovery and 24x7 data center and network operations as multiple sites in multiple geographic locations. Establish and maintain key IT supplier relationships in support of critical infrastructure product, platform, project, and service delivery 

Primary Duties:
  1. Deliver Business Outcomes: Lead the delivery and on-going support of Information Technology
    Enterprise, Services ensuring reliable, predictable performance, alignment with IT enterprise-wide
    goals and support of Exelon’s business objectives. Identify and monitor key performance
    indicators, recommend, and implement appropriate corrective actions. Drive Operational
    Excellence in the delivery of all Services.
  2. Strategy: Lead the development and implementation of IT strategic plan to ensure alignment with
    Exelon’s overall strategy and IT’s target architecture, while enabling Exelon’s strategy and
    objectives. Maintain awareness of technology improvements, best practices, and utility-related
    trends to identify opportunities and to assess their potential impact as they relate to providing IT
    solutions.
  3. Relationship Management: Provide leadership in managing relationships within the organization,
    its customers, and employees. Advise clients on information systems technologies, their
    functionalities, alternatives, costs, benefits, and implementation and life-cycle requirements.
    Provide overall guidance and insight to Exelon IT and leadership about application technology
    directions and investment decisions.
  4. Organization, Staffing and Talent Development: Attract and retain qualified I/T resources in
    support of the utility’s long-term IT needs. Evaluate performance and support the development of
    IT personnel. Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a learning organization.
    Support Business Talent Review activities, including ensuring development and readiness of
    talent pipeline. Coach and mentor IT personnel.
  5. Vendor/Supplier Relations: Build, foster and maintain high level relationships with key IT partners,
    vendors and suppliers serving IT. Ensure effective engagement through Exelon Supply resources
    in support of contracting for evolving business requirements and strategy, including actively
    working to influence vendor direction to meet Exelon’s immediate and long-term needs; Ensure
    timely and effective engagement with vendors to resolve emergent issues when appropriate.
  6. Financial Management: Oversee and manage a baseline technology spend and associated
    financial management responsibilities for IT delivery in the range of $100-$200 million annually.
    Oversee and manage Infrastructure capital project spend and associated financial investment 
    responsibilities for IT Delivery in the range of $100-$200 million annually.
Job Scope:
  • Total Staff Managed (Direct and Indirect): 550-650 
  • Budget Managed: >$200-300M annually
  • Impact of this position on external constituencies is high. The internal services provided directly support platform teams who deliver services, products, and projects that impact external customers of EXELON as part of the delivery of gas and electric service, the systems required for legal and regulatory compliance, employee and public safety, reporting of financial performance, knowledge and communications of customer information, etc.
  • Impact of this position on company performance is high. The effectiveness of Infrastructure Operations and Engineering directly impacts baseline and project costs and directly affects IT organizational strategy, goals and the achievement of safety, reliability, and financially strong business results.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably within a technical discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering)
  • Fifteen years’ experience leading and managing a large organization, preferably within an IT-discipline 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and execution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of utility operations and the use of information technology as a competitive advantage 
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, communications skills, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to present and discuss complex technical information to audiences of all levels (including Senior Executives) in a way that establishes rapport, persuades others, and gains understanding and agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading large operational teams with responsibility for IT infrastructure environments within large scale enterprises.
  • Experience sourcing IT functions and infrastructure services.
  • Graduate degree in Information Systems or related discipline or MBA.
