Position: VP of Finance
Location: Remote (U.S.-based)
Schedule: Full-time
Compensation: $200,000 – $225,000 base
Job Summary:
NOW CFO is hiring a VP of Finance to join our team in a permanent, full-time role. This is a senior, strategic leadership position for a finance and operating leader who has scaled high-growth companies through real step-changes in growth and unit economics. As a NOW CFO employee, you'll be dedicated to one of our clients, a strategic finance firm that partners with venture-backed technology and consumer subscription companies from pre-revenue through Series C and beyond. Working alongside the client's Managing Partner, you'll serve as a hands-on finance leader across their portfolio: rebuilding models, sharpening unit economics and pricing, leading fundraising efforts, and helping leadership teams make better decisions faster. You'll have the stability and support of NOW CFO behind you, with the variety and pace of startup work in front of you. If you've been a first finance hire, a VP of Finance, or an interim CFO inside a fast-scaling startup, think like an operator, and use AI every day in your work, this role is built for you.
Responsibilities
Strategic Finance & Business Modeling
- Build, rebuild, and own each client's financial model, forecasts, budgets, headcount plans, and cash runway analysis
- Drive unit economics, pricing strategy, and gross margin improvement, turning insight into measurable gains in growth efficiency
- Develop cohort, retention, and KPI frameworks that give leadership a clear, reliable view of business performance
- Establish operating rhythms such as annual budgets, OKRs, S&OP, and weekly business reviews that keep leadership teams aligned
Operator Leadership
- Serve as a true business partner to founders and CEOs, leading cross-functional initiatives that improve growth, margins, and execution
- Guide clients through pivotal moments, including turnarounds, reorganizations, product launches, and rapid scaling
- Oversee finance infrastructure, including ERP and planning system implementations, chart of accounts design, and month-end close partnership with the accounting team
- Help clients build out their finance functions, from first processes and systems to the team that runs them
Fundraising, Board & Investor Relations
- Lead clients through Series A through Series C raises, including operating models, pitch decks, investor materials, and financial diligence
- Prepare and present board materials, investor updates, and KPI reporting that tell a clear, credible story
- Support debt raises, M&A evaluation, and acquisition integration as clients grow
AI-Driven Finance
- Use AI tools such as Claude as a core part of modeling, scenario analysis, and reporting
- QA AI-generated work with a critical eye, catching errors before they reach a client, board, or investor
- Build dashboards and analysis with modern tools such as SQL and BI platforms, and help the firm refine AI-driven methods across engagements
Firm Growth & Client Development
- Partner with the Managing Partner on new business, including prospect meetings, engagement scoping, and proposals
- Apply and help evolve the firm's methods, playbooks, and client approach
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with founders that lead to lasting engagements and referrals
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including a VP of Finance, VP of FP&A, Head of Finance, or CFO-level role (interim CFO counts) at a venture-backed company
- Experience as an early or first finance hire at a startup, helping the business scale significantly in revenue and headcount
- Direct experience leading finance at companies between Series A and Series C, from early revenue through significant revenue scale
- Background in SaaS, technology, consumer subscription, AI-integrated companies, or health tech; hardware companies with a strong software or data component (such as wearables or connected devices) are a great fit
- Proven results improving unit economics, pricing, or gross margins, with measurable business impact
- Hands-on fundraising experience, including leading financial diligence and participating in board meetings
- AI-native working style, with demonstrated use of leading AI tools for modeling and analysis, plus SQL or BI tools for self-service reporting
- Strategic finance orientation, with strength in modeling, forecasting, and decision support rather than a primarily accounting or controller focus
- Operator mindset and executive presence, with the ability to communicate complex financial outcomes clearly to founders, boards, and investors
- Consistent track record of meaningful tenure, with clear context for any shorter roles
Preferred Qualifications
- Consulting, advisory, or fractional finance experience, including managing multiple client engagements at once and genuinely enjoying client-facing work
- Experience at a strategic or outsourced finance firm, with a strong understanding of engagement delivery
- Experience building and leading finance teams across FP&A, accounting, operations, and business systems
- Experience with M&A integration, multi-brand or portfolio reporting, or turnaround situations
- Early-career foundation in corporate FP&A at a large technology company
- Founder or co-founder experience, or experience in a CFO/COO hybrid role
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA a plus
