VT Lvl II NavSea/Mil Std Technician

MISTRAS Group is currently seeking an experienced Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Visual Testing (VT) Level II Technician who meets NAVSEA and MIL-STD-271 qualification requirements. This position is responsible for performing visual inspections on welded components, structural assemblies, piping systems, and other materials in accordance with applicable military, naval, customer, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting shipbuilding, ship repair, defense, or other NAVSEA-regulated operations and will be capable of independently performing inspections, interpreting applicable requirements, documenting results, and identifying relevant discontinuities.

Working for MISTRAS Group:

• Minimum 6-Month project starting ASAP
• 5-6 days a week, 10+ hours a day (overtime)
• $180 a day - 7 days a week per diem
• Must be able to test out per Mistras and the customer procedure

Job Responsibilities

• Perform direct and remote visual inspections in accordance with NAVSEA requirements, MIL-STD-271, approved written procedures, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
• Inspect welds, base materials, piping systems, structural components, and fabricated assemblies for surface discontinuities and workmanship concerns.
• Verify inspection conditions, including accessibility, lighting, viewing angle, surface preparation, and the calibration or functionality of inspection equipment.
• Interpret drawings, weld symbols, acceptance criteria, technical specifications, and applicable military standards.
• Evaluate and document relevant indications and determine acceptance or rejection in accordance with governing requirements.
• Prepare accurate and complete inspection reports and maintain required quality records.
• Clearly communicate inspection results to Quality, Production, Engineering, and customer representatives.
• Assist with the development and review of VT techniques, procedures, and work instructions when authorized.
• Maintain inspection equipment and verify that required calibrations and certifications are current.
• Follow all company, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
• Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits as required.
• Perform additional NDT or quality-related duties based on qualifications and operational needs.

Requirements:

• Current or previously documented VT Level II qualification in accordance with NAVSEA and MIL-STD-271 requirements.
• Documented training and experience necessary to qualify or recertify as a VT Level II technician.
• Experience performing visual inspections in a shipyard, naval, maritime, defense, or heavy industrial environment.
• Knowledge of welding processes, weld joint configurations, weld discontinuities, and fabrication practices.
• Ability to interpret military specifications, technical drawings, inspection procedures, and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to accurately complete inspection reports and maintain traceable documentation.
• Ability to pass required vision examinations, including near-vision and color-contrast testing.
• Ability to pass employer-administered written, practical, and procedure-specific examinations, when required.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to meet applicable site-access, background-screening, and security requirements.
• Valid driver's license may be required.

Preferred Requirements:

• Current NAVSEA-recognized VT Level II certification documentation.
• Additional NDT Level II qualifications, such as Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), or Radiographic Testing (RT).
• Experience with NAVSEA Standard Items and Navy shipbuilding or repair specifications.
• Experience inspecting structural welds, pressure-retaining components, piping systems, and machinery.
• Familiarity with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, ANSI/ASNT CP-189, or an employer-based written practice.
• Current OSHA 10, OSHA 30, shipyard safety, confined-space, or fall-protection training.
• Previous experience working aboard ships, submarines, or other naval vessels.
