Position Details:
Med Surg /PCU- Newport VT
Location                            : Newport VT 05855
Duration                           : 13 weeks
Pay-rate                            :$54-$57/hr
Shifts                                  : 7p-7a including every other wknd
 
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Med Surg/PCU Registered Nurse to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have experience caring for medical-surgical and progressive care patients, be comfortable working independently, and demonstrate strong clinical judgment and communication skills.
The nurse will be responsible for assessing patients, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient conditions, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to Med Surg and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) patients.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in patient conditions.
• Administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to established protocols.
• Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms or patient status.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatments, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and emergency situations.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of patient care.
• Perform charge nurse responsibilities when assigned.
• Float to other hospital departments or units based on staffing and patient-care needs.
• Follow hospital policies, procedures, infection-control standards, and patient-safety protocols.
• Participate in required education, training, and department meetings.

 
Qualifications:

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Previous experience in Med Surg, PCU, Telemetry, or a comparable acute-care setting.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
• Telemetry/ cardiac monitoring experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
• Ability to float between units as required.
• BLS certification required; additional certifications may be required depending on the facility and assignment.
