Job Title: Production Shift Lead

Department: Operations / Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Supervisor or Production Manager

Classification: 29.50/hr

Work Schedule: 6:00PM - 6:30AM

 
 

Job Summary

The Production Shift Lead is responsible for coordinating and overseeing production activities during an assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations. This role provides day‑to‑day direction to production employees, supports operational goals, and serves as a key link between frontline staff and management. The Shift Lead contributes to training, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with company policies and safety standards.

 
 

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead and coordinate work activities of production employees during an assigned shift to meet safety, quality, and productivity goals.

  • Assign labor based on staffing plans, employee qualifications, and production priorities.

  • Monitor production processes and employee performance; provide guidance, coaching, and support as needed.

  • Ensure all employees are properly trained, qualified, and have up‑to‑date training documentation.

  • Support onboarding and on‑the‑job training for new and existing employees.

  • Communicate production status, quality concerns, and operational issues to supervisors and/or managers in a timely manner.

  • Assist with start‑up, changeover, and shutdown activities, including completion of required documentation.

  • Coordinate break schedules and provide operational coverage as needed.

  • Promote a positive work environment by assisting with conflict resolution and employee engagement.

  • Participate in problem‑solving, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and environmental, health, and safety standards.

  • Model safe work behaviors and enforce safety rules and professional conduct standards.

  • Contribute input to employee performance evaluations and development planning.

  • Perform production or equipment operation duties as required to support business needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment (typically 1–3 years).

  • Demonstrated ability to guide, train, or lead others in a work setting.

  • Working knowledge of production processes, manufacturing equipment, and safety practices.

  • Understanding of quality standards and health and safety regulations.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.

  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Proficiency in written and verbal English communication.
 

Preferred Qualifications


  • Technical, vocational, or associate degree in a related field.

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working with training systems, production documentation, or performance metrics.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement principles (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).

Physical and Work Environment Requirements (optional – include if standardized across roles)


  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.

  • Availability to work assigned shifts, including overtime as required.
