Assist in organizing, planning, and directing the medical records department following established policies and procedures.
Maintain good communication with other departments to ensure proper record maintenance.
Record incidents/accidents and file them according to policies.
Collect, assemble, check, and file resident charts and personnel records; ensure incomplete records are corrected.
Develop procedures for accurate record completion, coding, signing, and indexing.
Establish controls to prevent unauthorized record removal.
Track information from records, including disclosures to insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc.
Maintain registries such as admission and discharge logs.
Assist with record retrieval, admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
Answer inquiries, prepare correspondence, and support administrative tasks.
Ensure proper sign-out and in for records taken from the department.
File active/inactive records, index as directed, and perform miscellaneous duties as needed.
