Catholic Charities of Houma-Thibodaux is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service-oriented individual to serve as a Warehouse & Delivery Specialist. This position plays an essential role in supporting food distribution efforts, warehouse operations, and community outreach by ensuring products and supplies are delivered safely and efficiently throughout the region. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, and committed to serving others with compassion and professionalism.
Position Summary
The Warehouse & Delivery Specialist collects and delivers food products and supplies throughout the Catholic Charities of Houma-Thibodaux network, transports products in a safe and effective manner using a box truck, maintains an organized, clean and safe warehouse, and performs other warehouse duties when not driving.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a box truck, and transit van safely and efficiently while following all traffic laws and organizational policies
- Load and unload cargo, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage. Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Transport goods to designated locations on a schedule.
- Preform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any issues.
- Maintain accurate and complete records.
- Verify and complete delivery documentation, such as donation logs and invoices.
- Provide quality customer service; develop and maintain rapport with donors, agencies, and volunteers to foster continued support and professional working relationships.
- Adhere to safety regulations including proper lifting techniques.
- Perform routine inspection, light maintenance, and cleaning of assigned vehicles and equipment reporting problems, defects or repairs to management immediately.
- Report mechanical issues to supervisor for repairs.
- Assist in general warehouse duties, such as loading and unloading vehicles, when not actively involved in driving duties.
- Operate and maintain warehouse equipment in a safe and prudent manner. (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, etc.)
- Keep the facility and grounds clean. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Required to work during a disaster response event that may include evenings and weekends.
- Train, schedule and supervise volunteer drivers that run routes in cargo vans.
- Operate the box truck during a disaster response event within the diocese and in support of neighboring agencies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must be familiar with the local service area including Morgan City, Terrebonne, Lafourche and Grand Isle.
- Ability to work steadily and independently with minimum supervision and to follow standard procedures.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions – both heat and cold-and to work within varying indoor temperatures such as freezers, coolers, and buildings that are not temperature controlled.
- Able to safely exert force and/or lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently and heavier items occasionally.
- Walk, sit, squat, bend, twist and reach at various heights above and below shoulder level.
- Must have basic math skills and the ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions.
- Basic computer knowledge helpful to complete electronic timecards, access email and complete online forms.
- Must successfully complete Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux Safe Environment Program.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain good relationships with people of various ages, education, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience driving a box truck or similar size vehicle.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Forklift certification a plus or experience operating a forklift with willingness to obtain certification.
