Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Assist in all phases of warehouse services including mail distribution, ordering, receiving, stocking, delivery, processing and distribution of material, storage and control of furniture, supplies, food and equipment. Set up and take down for school functions, hauling, and other related tasks as directed. In the event the Supervisor is out, the Assistant Supervisor will take on his/her responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Class C Texas Drivers License

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work
  • Must have general knowledge of delivery and accounting practices in warehouse function
  • Ability to read and write and have communication skills necessary to converse with various types of persons
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Must maintain valid Texas drivers license and insurable driving record
  • Ability to maintain labor and material records as required
  • Ability to run various types of electronic reports
  • Ability to read supply requisitions and perform basic arithmetic
  • Ability to operate a light truck
  • Ability to operate forklift
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and building occupants
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently

Experience:

  • Experience with deliveries and inventory control procedures

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Warehouse Management

  • Responsible for the receipt, inspection and distribution of warehouse stock to include, but not limited to equipment, instructional resources, surplus/salvage items, controlled assets, maintenance supplies, custodial supplies, office supplies and other items stocked in the warehouse to and from various locations throughout the district.
  • Receive shipments by counting, weighing, or measuring items and comparing size, weight, description, and code numbers with information on invoice and/or packing list and purchase orders. Record discrepancies or damage.
  • Track a large and diverse inventory and maintain proper stock levels by devising appropriate reorder lead times and amounts to assure adequate quantities are available for the District's facilities.
  • Rotate warehouse inventory stock and perform periodic cycle counts; keep supervisors informed of low levels of inventory stock.
  • Process requisitions for supplies, equipment, and furniture.
  • Process and assist in distributing work orders along with overseeing completion of work orders.
  • Inspect merchandise and paperwork before loading truck.
  • Deliver supplies, equipment, instructional materials, and other items to schools and departments, timely.
  • Recover surplus/salvage materials throughout the district.
  • Assist in obtaining quotes and negotiate comparative prices, order parts from vendors and work within budget constraints.
  • Assist in delivery and set up of furniture in new schools and new additions to existing schools.
  • Assist in annual physical inventory of warehouse.
  • Input inventory of supplies received at the warehouse into the electronic tracking system. Ensure all inventory transactions are properly documented in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with conducting complete inventories.
  • Assist with training of all warehouse personnel.
  • Assist with the supervision of warehouse personnel.

Safety

  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques while operating equipment and tools to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
  • Keep warehouse vehicles clean and in orderly condition; report problems and/or conditions of vehicles to supervisor.
  • Keep warehouse area clean, neat and free from hazardous obstacles.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Other

  • Carry out all duties in accordance with BISD Board of Education policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain a high personal standard in the following areas: attitude, cooperation, dependability, judgment, initiative, self-improvement, and as a role model for staff.

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Vehicle, forklifts, ladders, dollies, pallet jacks, hand tools and computers

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Work with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands

  • Medium lifting with minimum floor to knuckle lift of 75 lbs
  • Substantial amount of walking, standing, kneeling, bending, carrying, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling and squatting some shoveling
  • Operation of a motor vehicle

Environmental Demands

  • Work outside and inside: exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and exposure to excessive humidity
  • Exposure to a small amount of fumes from silicone, glues and adhesives, dust, noise, solvents, grease and oil
  • Working with ladders, scaffolds and personnel lifts
  • Working around moving parts of machinery and electrical hazards
  • May be required to work nights or prolonged hours

The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
