Job Description

The Warehouse Associate handles materials and products for shipment, prepares items by skid, crate, or box, and processes routine and standard shipping paperwork. This role supports assembly operations through repackaging, kitting, and staging materials, while maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized warehouse environment. The Warehouse Associate also operates various types of forklifts and material handling equipment to load, unload, and move products throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

• Prepare products by skid, crate, or box for shipment and accurately complete routine and standard shipping paperwork.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment by properly disposing of and storing materials in a timely manner.
• Support assembly operations by repackaging, kitting, and staging materials as needed.
• Safely remove and dispose of wood, plastic, metal, and other packaging materials according to established procedures.
• Use SAP to update storage bin information and to identify and locate materials throughout the warehouse.
• Perform routine inspections of material handling equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
• Operate a turret truck forklift to pick orders at height, following all safety guidelines and procedures.
• Operate a sit-down forklift to move picked orders from racks to the shipping area.
• Spend approximately 10–20% of the shift operating forklifts (turret and sit-down) after training and certification, while performing a variety of other warehouse tasks.
• Transport scrap bins to the unloading area and transfer materials into dumpsters in accordance with safety and environmental procedures.
• Unload and load trucks daily using forklifts, following documented procedures and safety standards.
• Unload incoming trucks, visually inspect parts, and move them to the receiving parts staging area.
• Operate forklift trucks and/or cranes to move materials into and out of assembly work areas.
• Handle shipping and receiving activities, including working with bills of lading and shipping systems when needed.
• Use RF scanners and inventory management tools to track and manage warehouse inventory.
• Support logistics operations across shipping, receiving, and general warehouse distribution activities.
• Follow all facility safety expectations, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and steel-toe shoes.
• Adhere to 5S principles by keeping work areas organized, clean, and efficiently arranged to support lean operations.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience operating sit-down or stand-up forklifts in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Comfort working at heights and operating very narrow aisle forklifts such as stand-up turret trucks.
• Material handling experience, including loading, unloading, and moving products within a warehouse.
• Shipping and receiving experience in a warehouse, production, or logistics setting.
• Experience with warehouse distribution, packaging, order picking, and unloading activities.
• Ability to use inventory and inventory control processes to manage warehouse stock.
• Experience with warehouse inventory management, including use of RF scanners.
• Ability to work with shipping systems and bills of lading to support outbound shipments.
• Capability to operate a stand-up reach truck, stand-up lift, and turret truck as required.
• Comfort working in an environment that may have smells such as paint and oil.
• Willingness to perform a versatile mix of warehouse tasks and not be on a forklift all day.
• Ability to follow established procedures for unloading trucks, inspecting parts, and staging materials.
• Commitment to following strict safety expectations, including wearing safety glasses and steel-toe shoes at all times on site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous shipping and receiving experience is preferred.
• Experience operating a turret truck forklift is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with bills of lading and inventory paperwork is beneficial.
• Experience with SAP or similar warehouse management systems is advantageous.
• Comfort using RF scanners and basic inventory management tools.
• Exposure to 5S and lean principles in a modern, organized warehouse environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, IL.

The pay range for this position is $21.42 - $21.42/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
