Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead and optimize warehouse operations within a food manufacturing environment. The Warehouse Manager will ensure safe, efficient, and compliant receipt, storage, handling, and dispatch of food products, maintain inventory accuracy, and drive continuous improvement using SAP and warehouse management systems. This role combines operational leadership, food safety compliance, and strong organizational skills to meet production and customer service targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day warehouse operations including receiving, storage, picking, packing and dispatch to meet production and customer delivery targets.
- Manage inventory control processes to ensure accuracy, minimize stock discrepancies and reduce waste through regular cycle counts and reconciliation.
- Use SAP and any connected WMS to record transactions, maintain accurate stock records, produce reports, and support data-driven decision making.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC, or equivalent) across all warehouse activities and prepare for internal and external audits.
- Develop, implement and sustain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for material handling, storage, and product traceability.
- Recruit, lead and coach warehouse staff, set clear performance expectations, conduct performance reviews and deliver training on safety, food handling and system use.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics with suppliers, carriers and production planning to optimize throughput and reduce lead times.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, on-time dispatch, inventory accuracy, warehouse utilization and safety incidents.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels, using lean principles where appropriate.
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing health & safety policies, conducting risk assessments and ensuring proper use of PPE and equipment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) managing warehouse operations, preferably in a food manufacturing or food distribution environment.
- Hands-on experience with SAP (MM/WM or relevant modules) or other WMS software and strong computer literacy to manage inventory and reporting.
- Solid understanding of food safety and quality systems (HACCP, BRC, ISO22000 or equivalent) and experience preparing for audits.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple workflows and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills including hiring, coaching and performance management.
- Practical knowledge of material handling equipment and warehouse safety practices; certification for forklift operation preferred.
- Strong communication skills, problem-solving mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Relevant secondary education; diploma or degree in supply chain, logistics, business or a related field is an advantage.
