Job Role
The Warranty Acceleration Engineer is responsible for leading the root cause analysis and corrective action development for current warranty issues on Stellantis Internal Combustion Engines (ICE's).
Responsibilities:
Meet with Quality team representatives and review each new warranty issue to ensure strategy for pulling dealer claims into this issue is correct prior to accepting ownership of the issue and turning it RED.
Organize retentions through the quality team to bring field failure parts back to our Quality Engineering Center (QEC) in Auburn Hills MI for root cause analysis.
Set up a cross functional team with members from Core Engine Engineering, Calibration, Engine Test team, QEC staff and personnel, Quality, Manufacturing, and other areas of the company to help determine the root cause of the warranty issue.
Work through Reactive Greenbelt problem solving process to quickly identify the actual root cause.
Determine an effective Interim Corrective Action to protect our customers and implement it as soon as possible to turn the issue YELLOW.
Design an experiment to show that we have correctly identified the root cause and can turn it on and off with the proposed corrective action.
Hold a handover meeting to move the resolution responsibility over to the correct solver, depending on whether the root cause lies with Engineering, Supplier Quality or Manufacturing.
Monitor the issue until the Permanent Corrective Action arrives at our vehicle plants to turn the issue LIGHT GREEN.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field
Familiarity with automotive engine design, components, and systems
Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience
Strong problem-solving skills including critical thinking, structured root cause analysis, pattern recognition, and design of experiments.
Critical character traits to ensure success: Organized, Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving.
Preferred Qualifications:
Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification in Reactive Problem Solving
Previous experience in solving warranty or development issues for IC Engines
Advanced degree with emphasis in engine development, control systems, or calibration.
Understanding of CAN communication
Working experience in creation and execution of validation plans for engine components.
5 years or more in design, development and / or validation of engines
Experience with engine teardowns and rebuilds
Experience working with Dealer community and / or Service organizations
