About the Opportunity

Reliance One is seeking a Warranty Engineer to join a growing team in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This role is responsible for reviewing OEM warranty returns, performing root cause analysis, identifying product reliability trends, and driving corrective actions to improve product quality and performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with reliability engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Analyze OEM warranty-returned parts using structured problem-solving methodologies to determine root cause.
• Review warranty data and identify trends to support product quality and reliability improvements.
• Provide reliability and quality engineering input throughout the product design and APQP process.
• Utilize Design for Excellence (DfX) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to assess product reliability and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Support technological risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies.
• Maintain project and milestone documentation, including:
• Test plans
• Test status reports
• FRACAS documentation
• FMEA activities
• Participate in design reviews to identify and mitigate potential reliability concerns early in the development process.
• Apply reliability modeling techniques, including:
• Mean Time to Failure (MTTF)
• Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
• Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD)
• Support development of subsystem and component reliability strategies.
• Assist with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) activities.
• Support tolerance stack-up and worst-case analysis for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Perform failure analysis on development testing and identify root causes to improve future designs.
• Develop warranty predictions using Design Validation (DV) and Production Validation (PV) data.
• Monitor field performance and expected product failure rates to recommend design improvements.
• Apply Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify high-risk areas and mitigation strategies.
• Process warranty returns within customer systems.
• Coordinate and monitor testing of defective parts.
• Document emerging quality issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Track and monitor progress of open warranty corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain warranty tracking metrics and trend reports.
• Maintain process documentation in accordance with customer and internal standards.
• Support development of customer service bulletins.
• Occasionally visit dealerships or customer facilities to evaluate returned parts and maintain dealership call logs.
• Travel up to 5–10% as needed for customer site visits.

Required Qualifications

• Experience performing root cause analysis on warranty or field-returned components.
• Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles and methodologies.
• Experience with APQP, FMEA, FRACAS, and structured problem-solving techniques.
• Knowledge of:
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
• Design for Excellence (DfX)
• Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
• Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD)
• MTTF and MTBF calculations
• Experience interpreting product test results and supporting reliability growth initiatives.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer teams.

Computer Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including:
• Excel
• Word
• PowerPoint
• Strong data analysis capabilities.
• Experience with reliability software.
• Experience with WinSmith and/or Minitab is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience with customer-specific warranty and quality systems is highly desirable, including:

• BMW: b2b
• Stellantis: PRAS+, WIS/EWT, GIM
• Ford: WPRC, BASQ, GSAR, GWC
• General Motors: GART, Part Link
• Daimler: SRS, QEC-Tool
• Honda: Honda Web, QCP
• Additional experience with Ubiquiti, Covisint, or similar customer platforms is a plus.
