A Wastewater Treatment Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the industrial wastewater treatment system at a PCB manufacturing facility. This position plays an important role in ensuring wastewater generated from PCB production is properly treated before discharge and that treatment processes are operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and applicable environmental requirements.
The operator works closely with Production, Maintenance, and Quality personnel to maintain reliable wastewater treatment operations. This position may work independently or as part of a small team and requires the ability to work night shifts and flexible schedules as needed.
Responsibilities
Operate and monitor industrial wastewater treatment systems used in PCB manufacturing.
Monitor treatment tanks, pumps, filters, chemical feed systems, pH, flow, and other process parameters.
Perform routine testing and sampling of wastewater to verify treatment effectiveness.
Properly add and handle treatment chemicals in accordance with established procedures and SDS requirements.
Monitor chemical levels and notify management when replenishment is required.
Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and basic preventive maintenance on wastewater treatment equipment.
Identify abnormal operating conditions, equipment problems, leaks, or process issues and promptly escalate them to Maintenance or Management.
Maintain accurate daily operating logs, test results, chemical usage records, and wastewater treatment documentation.
Properly handle, label, stage, and dispose of wastewater treatment byproducts and regulated waste.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe wastewater treatment area.
Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, chemical-handling procedures, and environmental policies.
Assist with environmental inspections, sampling, audits, and regulatory documentation as required.
Communicate treatment system status and operational issues to the appropriate members of management and the next shift.
Support continuous improvement activities to improve treatment efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
Perform other duties related to wastewater treatment and environmental operations as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in industrial wastewater treatment, chemical processing, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
Experience in PCB manufacturing, metal finishing, plating, or chemical processing is a plus.
Basic understanding of pH, chemical treatment, filtration, and wastewater processes preferred.
Ability to safely handle industrial chemicals and wear required PPE.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting.
Ability to read and follow written procedures, SDSs, operating instructions, and safety requirements.
Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize changes in treatment system conditions.
Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a small team.
Ability to work night shift, including occasional overtime or schedule adjustments when required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move materials and chemical containers within established safety limits.
Ability to work around industrial equipment, chemicals, water treatment systems, and manufacturing operations while using required PPE.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise, and odors.
