The City of Folsom is recruiting for four (4) Wastewater Collection Technicians 0/I/II/III to join the Utilities Department. 2 positions are in the Wastewater Collection Division based at the Folsom Corp Yard at 1300 Leidesdorff Street and 2 positions are in the Utility Maintenance - Wastewater Division based at the Folsom Water Treatment Plant at 194 Randall Drive.
This is a Monday - Friday position. This position is non-exempt and represented by the Local 39 IUOE union.
Under the supervision of the Wastewater Collection Manager or the Utility Maintenance Manager, the Wastewater Collection Technicians 0/I/II/III will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical duties related to the maintenance and repair of City wastewater maintenance operations, wastewater collection systems, facilities, and related equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Wastewater Collection Technician 0 (salary range M38: $55,078.46 - $69,771.74 annually) is the trainee level in the Wastewater Collection Technician class series. Under immediate supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties in the condition assessment, construction and maintenance of pipeline and wastewater services including the testing, overhauling, and repairing of system components. Incumbents in this class have no prior experience in maintenance, construction, or wastewater systems, and/or do not possess any collection system maintenance certifications.
The Wastewater Collection Technician I (salary range M47: $66,950.63 - $84,811.06 annually) is the first entry level in the Wastewater Collection Technician class series. Under closer supervision, incumbents learn and perform duties in the condition assessment, construction and maintenance of pipeline and wastewater services including the testing, overhauling, and repairing of system components. Incumbents perform the same duties as a Wastewater Collection Technician II, but work with less proficiency and greater supervision and a lower certification level.
The Wastewater Collection Technician II (salary range M52: $77,513.60 - $98,191.91 annually) is the second entry level in the Wastewater Collection Technician class series, performing the full range of duties at a higher level of independence under general supervision. It is distinguished from the Wastewater Collection Technician III in that the latter receives only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
The Wastewater Collection Technician III (salary range M57: $85,448.29 - $108,243.34 annually) is the journey level class in the Wastewater Collection Technician class series, performing the full range of duties at a higher level of independence under general supervision. It is distinguished from the Wastewater Collection Technician III - (A) in that the latter receives only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Additionally, the Wastewater Collection Technician III - (A) has specific distinguishable responsibility and work assignments.
Positions in this class are flexibly staffed. At the discretion of the department director, incumbents may be advanced to Wastewater Collection Technician I/II/III provided they meet the required certification and minimum qualifications for the job class.

Two (2) years of full-time experience in the maintenance, construction, and/or repair of wastewater collection systems. Three (3) years of experience is preferred.

WASTEWATER COLLECTION TECHNICIAN III
Education:
Equivalent to completion from the twelfth grade.
Experience:
Three (3) years of full-time experience in maintenance, construction, and/or repair of wastewater collections systems. Four (4) years of experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 50 lbs; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Working Environment:
Work is performed in an outdoor field environment in inclement weather conditions; exposure to noise, unpleasant odors, chemicals, and other environmental substances; work in or around water; travel to and from various job sites; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
Other Requirements:
Wastewater collection system functions are 24 hours a day, 365 days a year operation. All employees in this class must be willing and able to work shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and standby duty as determined by the city.
