Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill two (2) vacancies for the classification of Wastewater Facilities Operator I in the Department of Utility Services. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.

Under general supervision, assists in the maintenance, and operation and control of unit processes of the collection system lift station, bionutrient removal, and ultra-filtration membrane systems, biosolids removal system, reuse pumping and distribution system, Bird Viewing Preserve ponds; performs related duties as required.

NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:

Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in maintaining pumps, valves, pipes, or motors, or performing minor building or facility maintenance work on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, or plumbing systems; or six (6) months of experience working as a Wastewater Facilities Intern at the City of Henderson
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must possess, at minimum, an Operator-In-Training and/or Restricted Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification issued by the State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) in one of the following areas: Water Treatment or Wastewater Treatment
  • Must possess or obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I Certification, or higher, issued by the State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire
  • Must possess or obtain a Nevada Plant Maintenance Technologist Grade I Certification issued by the Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire
  • Employee must maintain certificates and licenses as required by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies for the position
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained at incumbent's expense
