Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Wastewater Operator I/II/III for our Lift Station operations. This position involves maintaining and operating lift stations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and performing routine inspections and maintenance of equipment. Ideal candidates will have a solid understanding of wastewater systems, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety and quality. Experience with lift stations and appropriate certification is preferred.
Protects public health and welfare. Performs mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance and equipment repairs. Installs and/or uninstalls plant equipment as needed. Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, and various other mechanical equipment within lift stations. Generate and complete electronic work orders and inspections on lift stations. Performs mechanical repairs within the wastewater treatment plant as needed.
Duties
Wastewater Operator I - Lift Station
- Conducts detailed routine inspections of wastewater lift stations: checks all wastewater pumps, monitoring equipment, records readings on gauges and meters, and maintains electrical controls and equipment.
- Completes electrical troubleshooting within panels, wet well cleanings, pump and motor maintenance.
- Preventative maintenance on all lift station equipment including oil changes, priming, checking motors, greasing pumps, and monitoring generators to ensure full functionality.
- Performs building, and lawn maintenance including rebuilding of pumps, painting, mowing and trimming lawns.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Wastewater Operator II/III - Lift Station
- Determines status of wastewater pump stations by checking all wastewater pumps, observing gauges and meters as well as electrical controls and equipment. Takes readings on numerous meters and gauges and records on daily log sheets. Performs stand by duties.
- Performs equipment, building, and lawn maintenance including rebuilding of pumps, painting of pumps, and building, mowing and trimming lawns. Also includes priming and greasing pumps and motors.
- Performs various tasks at treatment plants to assist in maintenance or repairs of plant equipment. Performs personnel related duties including training and coaching.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Wastewater Operator I - Lift Station ($17.46-$21.83/hourly DOQ, + Cert Pay)
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).
- Class "II" Wastewater Collection Certification from the TCEQ within 18 months of hire date.
- One year of related experience.
Preferred:
- Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Certification by the TCEQ
- One year of direct experience performing lift station repairs.
Wastewater Operator II - Lift Station ($19.78-$24.73/hourly DOQ, + Cert Pay)
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).
- Class "II" Collection Certification by the TCEQ.
- Two years of related experience.
Preferred:
- Class "C" Wastewater Treatment Certification by the TCEQ
Wastewater Operator III - Lift Station ($22.11-$27.64/hourly DOQ, + Cert Pay)
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus specialized technical courses.
- Four years experience in a paraprofessional related role.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver's license within 90 days).
- Class "III" Wastewater Collection Certification by the TCEQ.
Preferred:
- Class "B" Wastewater Collection Certification by the TCEQ.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Wastewater Operator I - Lift Station
Understanding in the operation of lift stations and all pertinent mechanical equipment. Knowledge of mathematics, safety procedures, blueprints, and electricity. Familiarity with EPA and TCEQ regulations, and wastewater collection process. Must be computer literate in Word, Excel, Outlook, Power point, and asset management applications. Ability to maintain professional relationships with co-workers and the public. Capability to operate machinery and equipment used in wastewater treatment applications. Understanding of electricity in the range of 24V to 480V. Fabrication, ability to operate auto-dialer units. Desired knowledge of confined space training, experience operating motorized construction equipment such as crane trucks. Ability to work at moderate heights, wet, and dry wells of lift stations.
Wastewater Operator II/III - Lift Station
Ability to operate machinery and equipment used in wastewater treatment. Knowledge of work safety with voltage ranging from 24V to 480V. Knowledge to program auto-dialer units. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
