Wastewater Supervisor

Reports To: WasteWater Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt/Salary

Position Summary

The Water Pre-Treatment Supervisor plans, coordinates, and directs all operations and maintenance activities for the wastewater treatment system and plant equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring system efficiency, regulatory compliance, and the leadership of the operational team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • System Oversight: Analyzes primary functionality and ancillary systems; supervises the maintenance and repair of all plant components.

  • Safety & Compliance: Ensures the safe operation of all equipment and facilities. Monitors operations to guarantee full compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, and safety standards.

  • Team Leadership: Organizes and assigns daily activities for treatment plant operators. Trains new employees and ensures all subordinates strictly adhere to safety protocols.

  • Operational Optimization: Reviews wastewater maintenance trends to recommend improvements. Provides technical input on operational design and regulates the flow of wastewater through the plant.

  • Resource Management: Manages the requisition and purchase of necessary materials, parts, and supplies.

  • Emergency Response: Acts as a primary responder to plant emergencies to mitigate risks and restore operations.

  • Documentation: Maintains accurate records of equipment operations, work procedures, and safety training.

Qualifications
  • Certification: Must possess a Class I Wastewater Operation Certification (Preference given to Class II or higher).

  • Experience: High School diploma with at least two (2) years of experience in wastewater treatment, including a minimum of one (1) year in a supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Eligibility: Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of the principles and processes of wastewater treatment.

  • Knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of industrial wastewater machinery.

  • Familiarity with facility planning, record-keeping, and management methods.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate tasks and promote safe work practices.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and talk for 8–10 hours per day. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and access all areas of the operations floor.

  • Environmental Conditions: Work is performed both outdoors and within wastewater facilities.

  • Atmosphere: Exposure to wet/moist floors (including metal and plastic grating), noise levels ranging from 50 dB to 110 dB, and temperatures ranging from 28°F to 100°F with high humidity.

  • Hazards: Potential exposure to chemicals typical of a large-scale food processing environment.
