Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Wastewater System Specialist to join our team! 

 

The Wastewater System Specialist Position is responsible for investigating and appropriately resolving certain wastewater and stormwater service requests, planning and conducting QA/QC inspections of construction activities, collaboratively managing Citizens Energy Group’s Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Program, conducting self-reporter meter inspections, and conducting various system testing (i.e. dye testing, etc.). This position requires frequent collaboration with personnel from various divisions of the Trust, external agencies, and customers. The incumbent will participate in the on-call supervisor rotation for the Wastewater Collections Department and may be required to provide supervisory coverage during the absence of a department supervisor. While serving in the on-call capacity, the incumbent is expected to assume a leadership role, directing Wastewater crews to ensure service requests are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.

Minimum Salary: $68,300 (Grade 8)

Responsibilities:
  • Use InforPS and the Geographical Information System (GIS) to accurately document, diagnose, and plan system repairs, and/or alternatives for storm and wastewater service requests.
  • Inspect a sampling of subcontractor construction work to ensure compliance with company standards for wastewater or City standards for stormwater. This may entail interacting with the general public.
  • Assist in the management of the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Program by researching and tracking service requests, performing random site visits for potential FOG producers, and ensuring compliance with the Utility
  • Terms and Conditions. Coordinate with the local Health Department to provide FOG education and enforcement.
  • Coordinate with field operations staff, document, and submit IDEM 5-Day Sewer Overflow/bypass report as required by NPDES permit.
  • Conduct dye tests, as requested, to confirm sewer connections. Coordinate and communicate with various Trust departments.
  • Inspect Self-Reporter customer meter installations and provide recommendations for new installations. Perform and document random site visits to Self-Reporter sites.
  • Serve as the “On-Call” supervisor for after-hour storm and wastewater sewer emergencies. Responsible for independently managing bargaining staff and third-party contractor crews to resolve the sewer emergency, as applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • 6 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must have knowledge of wastewater and stormwater collection system construction and maintenance activities.
  • Must be detailed, highly organized and able to prioritize and demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use a computer or computer device for record keeping with and proficiency in Outlook, Word and Excel.

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications                            

  • NASSCO Pipeline Assessment & Certification Program (PACP) certification.
  • Familiarity with storm and wastewater emergency response procedures.
  • 2 or more years of experience at Citizens Energy Group.
  • Knowledge of storm/wastewater specialty equipment operation, including but not limited to, combination sewer cleaning trucks, closed-circuit televising equipment, backhoe, arrow boards, and trailer towing experience.
  • Proficient with KloudGin, Acella, InforPS, ESRI Apps and GIS, Oracle, and pipe televising software.
  • Commercial driver’s license.
