The vacancy will be filled at either the Maintenance Worker Apprentice, Maintenance Worker, Operator I, or Operator II level depending on qualifications and transferable skills.

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision performs a variety of maintenance and repair work to the water distribution systems. The City of Port Townsend strives to provide a quality reliable infrastructure looking toward a sustainable future.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties also include Core Competencies described in detail in the job descriptions.
- Participates as a member of the Public Works team to maintain of the City's water distribution system including pumps, pipes, hydrant, meters, reservoirs, and valves
- Performs customer service for meter reading, leak repair, and installation of taps and meters
- Performs small construction projects including pipe installation and replacement
- Troubleshoots water system problems and makes repairs
- Assists with preventive maintenance program of equipment in coordination with the Fleet division
- Operates heavy construction equipment including backhoe, front-end loader, dump trucks, vactor truck, etc., and operates hand tools such as cutoff saws, compactors, jackhammers, etc. as qualified
- Transports equipment with dump trucks and pickups with trailers
- Performs minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairs
- Assists with maintenance and repairs at the Water Treatment Facility
- Assists with maintenance and repairs of the Olympic Gravity Water System
- Assists other departments with underground utility work
- Provides support of other divisions and departments during emergencies
- Assists with establishing and implementing appropriate safety programs for staff and equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Maintenance Worker Apprentice
$27.06-30.74 base pay range
$27.06-34.43 total pay range including maximum possible longevity
Minimum Requirements
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
- First Aid/CPR certification or must obtain within 12 months in this position.
- Traffic Control and Flagging certification or must obtain within 6 months in this position.
Preferred
- Current flaggers card
- Current CDL Class A
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience working in construction or related field
Maintenance Worker
$27.98-32.00 base pay range
$27.98-35.84 total pay range including maximum possible longevity
Minimum Requirements
- One (1) year as a water distribution apprentice or equivalent relevant experience.
- Water Distribution Manager in Training certification within 6 months in this position.
- Water Distribution Manager 1 certification within 18 months of being in this position.
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
- First Aid/CPR certification or must obtain within 12 months in this position.
- Traffic Control and Flagging certification or must obtain within 6 months in this position.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" or must obtain within 12 months of employment in this classification.
Preferred
- Water Distribution Manager 1 certification
- Current flaggers card
- Current CDL Class A
- Current First Aid/CPR certification

Operator I
$34.04-38.52 base pay range
$34.04-43.14 total pay range including maximum potential longevity

- Water Distribution Manager 2 or higher certification
- 3+ years' experience in water distribution or related field
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
- First Aid/CPR certification or must obtain within 12 months in this position.
- Traffic Control and Flagging certification or must obtain within 6 months in this position.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" or must obtain within 12 months of employment in this classification.

$36.46-41.41 base pay range

- Water Distribution Manager 3 or higher certification or Water Distribution Manager 2 certification with 10 years of experience operating a water system
- 8+ years' experience in water distribution or related field
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
- Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
- First Aid/CPR certification or must obtain within 12 months in this position
- Traffic Control and Flagging certification or must obtain within 6 months in this position
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" or must obtain within 12 months of employment in this classification
Preferred
- Water Distribution Manager 4
- Current flaggers card
- Current CDL Class A
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- 3+ years' experience as a job site superintendent
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires being onsite working in the field primarily in the outdoors during all types of weather; repeated walking, bending, stooping and lifting; the ability to occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.; vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected); and a full range of motor skills. This position may require working in confined spaces and require climbing and working at heights up to 100 feet.
