Water Facilities Operator I

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Water Facilities Operator I in the Department of Utilities. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status. Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment used in the distribution, storage, and disinfection of raw andpotable water systems; performs related duties as assigned.

External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance of mechanical equipment, pumps, motors, valves, analyzers, piping and/or buildings
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must possess, at time of application, a minimum of a Grade I Operator-In-Training Certification issued by the State of Nevada Department of Environmental Protection in one of the following areas: Water Distribution, Water Treatment, or Wastewater Treatment; or a Grade I Restricted Certification issued by the State of Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) in Wastewater Collections
  • Incumbent must obtain a Grade I Water Distribution Certification, or higher, issued by the State of Nevada Department of Environmental Protection within twelve (12) months from the date of hire
  • Incumbent must obtain a Grade I Plant Maintenance Technologist certification issued by Water Professionals International (WPI) or Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) within twelve (12) months from the date of hire
  • Employee will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained at incumbent's expense
  • Employee must maintain certificates and licenses for the position in good standing as a condition of continued employment
  • Desirable: Experience in water treatment and/or water distribution
