We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Water / Maintenance Technician to support maintenance and water/sewer operations for a local municipality. This position is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled labor involving village streets, alleys, sewers, water lines, valves, storm drains, equipment, and general maintenance.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, operating various types of equipment, performing heavy physical labor, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Responsibilities
Perform manual labor requiring the ability to lift and position objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
Operate dump trucks, front-end loaders, water/sewer jetting machines, wood chippers, mowers, tractors, and other equipment as needed.
Use shovels, hand tools, and power tools to complete assigned tasks.
Set up street and traffic controls as required.
Perform tree and lawn restoration and maintenance.
Paint curbs, sidewalk crossings, and parking areas as needed.
Repair water and sewer lines, including the replacement of lines and valves.
Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
Work outdoors and withstand varying weather conditions.
Perform basic maintenance on equipment and keep maintenance records up to date.
Read water meter information through manual inspection, handheld devices, and radio interface methods.
Perform daily sampling and testing of the public water system.
Visually inspect wastewater treatment plant operations and report any problems observed.
Perform extended walking while operating or working around moderately heavy equipment.
Maintain a good working relationship with coworkers and management.
Follow all safety practices and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Previous maintenance, water/sewer, municipal, construction, equipment operation, or related experience is preferred.
Any combination of training and experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the job duties will be considered.
Valid State of Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required; Class A preferred.
Ability to operate village equipment and power tools.
Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Good communication skills and the ability to communicate problems and potential solutions to management.
Dependable, honest, and trustworthy.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, squat, sit, and maneuver in confined spaces.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
Ability to walk for extended periods while working with moderately heavy equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Must be able to maintain alertness and accuracy while performing job duties.
