This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in the operation of a water treatment plant and water distribution system. Water Operator Certification (Level I, II, or III) is preferred, but applications will also be accepted for non-certified workers who have the ability to become state- certified when eligible.
Duties include the operation of equipment to control water flow and maintain proper operating levels. Service, maintain, operate and repair facilities and equipment including pumping devices. Install, repair, and maintain the water distribution system and fire hydrants throughout the City. Responds to after-hour emergencies.
Minimum qualifications include basic skills typically associated with a high school education and sufficient experience to understand basic principles of a water distribution and maintenance system such as an apprenticeship or experience working. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid SD driver's license. Possession of or ability to readily earn appropriate state-certified water license when eligible.
Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid SD driver's license. CDL not required but helpful. Ability to readily obtain appropriate state-certified water operators certification upon eligibility.
