Reports To: Water/WW Pipeline Maintenance Supervisor Job Summary Dalton Utilities is seeking a motivated candidate for the role of Pipe Mechanic. This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer services in accordance with established policies, standards, and safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair water and sewer lines and related infrastructure Construct and install water taps, lay pipe, repair leaks, and set fire hydrants Perform sewer maintenance tasks including installing taps, clearing lines, repairing sewer systems, and raising manholes Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, mini excavators, dump trucks, and other machinery Utilize tools and equipment including jackhammers, drills, air compressors, demo saws, jetter/vaccon units Locate underground utilities and ensure safe excavation practices Assist with traffic control, including flagging and setting up safety signage Load and transport materials such as dirt, gravel, and road plates Read and interpret maps for daily job assignments and assist with data input Perform maintenance on county pumps, including pump changes as needed Collaborate with supervisors, crew leaders, and team members to complete projects efficiently Participate in standby/on-call rotation as required Perform other related duties as assigned Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 90 pounds Ability to operate heavy equipment and tools Capability to enter confined spaces and work in various environmental conditions Frequent bending, climbing, and manual labor Ability to safely wear required protective equipment (respirator, SCBA, harness, etc.) Successful applicant should either currently hold or have the ability to obtain Class A Commercial Driver's license within 6 months of hire date. Ability to obtain Georgia Water Distribution System Operator license and Wastewater Collection System Operator license is a prerequisite for advancement. This position is Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and is required to work on call stand-by rotation in the Wastewater Collections and Water Distribution Departments. Pay Range $18.60 - $33.10/hour (includes Level 4 - Level 1) |
