POSITION

To perform complex Wastewater Plant operations and maintenance assignments involving plant process and control, preventative maintenance to include equipment repairs, laboratory procedures. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Water Pollution Control Facility, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have experience working in a facility that has activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, tertiary filtration and UV disinfection with a strong mechanical aptitude, as well as the ability to take the lead on projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate the Water Pollution Control Facility, to ensure compliance with State Regulations. Interpret alarms, meters, gauges, SCADA system and test results to determine process and control criteria. May perform required laboratory tests, analyses, and record the results. Perform maintenance and repair work on pumps, valves, Ultraviolet Disinfection equipment, filtration equipment, laboratory equipment and storm water pumping stations. Participate in ongoing preventative maintenance program and accurately maintain and compile records and reports. Operate a personal computer to retrieve data from the SCADA system and then adjust plant operations; and create spreadsheets and word processing documents. Train and provide work directions to subordinate personnel. Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Participate in the department safety program and follow all safety precautions and regulations. Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency callouts as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by training or coursework in the areas of chemistry, biology or related wastewater operations.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in work involving the maintenance and operation of a water pollution control facility and/or related facilities and programs.

License and Certificates:

Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's License and Current Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.

CURRENT SALARY

$7,452.95 - $9,512.06 /month

$3,439.82 - $4,390.18 /bi-weekly

BENEFITS

Retirement:

CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members). The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Compensation:

Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth) with 1% City-match. After successful completion of probation, new hires are also eligible for a 2% City contribution.

Medical:

CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Allowance (2026): $2,463.99 per month, and for 2027 is $2,537.91/month

Dental/Vision:

City paid Delta Dental and VSP Vision Benefits

LTD/STD:

City paid wage protection for long/short term disabilities

Life Insurance:

City provides $50,000 life insurance policy

Supplemental Benefits:

Voluntary Supplemental Life, Cancer, Accident Only, STD/LTD and Critical Illness insurance, and Flexible Spending Accounts available

Vacation:

6.7 hours per month during first three (3) years of service

Holidays:

12.5 paid holidays (including two floating holidays)

Sick Leave:

8 hours per month

Bilingual Pay:

$200 per month upon certification

Prof. Growth and Wellness Stipend:

$625/annually for professional growth and wellness (non-taxable, paid over 24 pay periods per fiscal year)
