We are seeking a motivated Water Quality Specialist to support the Environmental Division Compliance Branch at Fort Gordon, Georgia. This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional with experience in water quality, stormwater management, NPDES compliance, environmental inspections, or environmental sampling who is interested in supporting a diverse and technically challenging environmental program.The Water Quality Specialist will work with environmental professionals, Government personnel, project teams, and other stakeholders to help protect water resources and maintain compliance with federal, state, Army, and installation environmental requirements.What You'll DoIn this role, you will support the installation's Water Quality Program through a combination of fieldwork, regulatory compliance, technical analysis, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.Key responsibilities include:Conduct environmental and stormwater inspections of municipal and industrial facilities, construction sites, stormwater infrastructure, outfalls, drainage systems, receiving waters, and stormwater control measures.Collect stormwater and surface-water samples, maintain appropriate sampling and chain-of-custody documentation, review analytical results, and support required reporting.Support compliance with municipal, industrial, and construction stormwater requirements, including applicable NPDES permits and MS4 program requirements.Assist with implementation and documentation of MS4 Minimum Control Measures, including illicit-discharge detection, construction and post-construction controls, pollution prevention, and public education and outreach.Evaluate stormwater best management practices (BMPs), erosion and sediment controls, low-impact development measures, drainage conditions, and corrective actions.Review erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, hydrologic information, and other environmental or technical documents.Track inspections, land-disturbance activities, stormwater infrastructure, corrective actions, and project status using GPS, GIS, databases, and other program tools.Coordinate with project teams and Government stakeholders and participate in environmental and pre-construction meetings.Support environmental permit administration and maintain accurate compliance documentation and records.Assist with updates to Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Stormwater Management Plans, maps, inventories, sampling records, inspection records, and other program documentation.Prepare technical reports, regulatory submittals, presentations, briefings, educational materials, and correspondence.Communicate water-quality and compliance information to installation personnel, regulatory agencies, USACE, Army organizations, and other stakeholders.Provide water-quality technical information and document reviews supporting the installation's NEPA process, as needed.What We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Hydrology, Biology, Geology, or a related scientific or environmental field.Approximately three or more years of relevant professional experience in environmental compliance, water quality, stormwater management, NPDES compliance, or a related field.Working knowledge of environmental regulations and the ability to interpret and apply permit and compliance requirements.Experience with environmental inspections, stormwater or surface-water sampling, environmental fieldwork, or similar compliance activities.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort working with electronic records and databases.Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork, including walking over uneven terrain and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.Ability to safely use and handle equipment associated with environmental field inspections and sampling.Valid driver's license and ability to operate Government or company vehicles when required.Ability to obtain and maintain required stormwater certifications following hire, as applicable to assigned responsibilities.Ability to meet applicable Government background, access, drug-screening, and Common Access Card (CAC) requirements.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. Preferred QualificationsWe're especially interested in candidates with one or more of the following:Experience with NPDES stormwater programs, MS4 programs, SWPPPs, construction stormwater, industrial stormwater, or impaired-waters programs.Experience preparing environmental compliance or regulatory reports.Experience with erosion and sediment control inspections or plan review.Georgia erosion and sediment control certifications, such as Level 1B or Level II, or comparable stormwater/environmental certifications from another state.Experience collecting field data using GPS equipment or working with GIS-based mapping, inspection, or asset-management systems.Experience with SharePoint, Power Apps, or similar collaboration and data-management platforms.Experience supporting environmental programs for a military installation, federal agency, municipality, engineering firm, environmental consulting firm, or similar organization.Why This OpportunityThis position offers the opportunity to work on a broad water-quality and stormwater compliance program where your work has a direct impact on environmental protection and mission support.
