Hourly Rate:
• Operator in Training: $24.74
• Operator I: $25.98
• Operator II: $28.64
• Operator III: $30.07
Schedule: Tuesday–Tuesday, 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., then off Wednesday–Monday.
Schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the department.

As a Water Treatment Plant Operator, you'll perform essential work to keep O'Fallon's water and wastewater treatment plants operating efficiently and in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your role may include:
• Making regular rounds and inspecting assigned plant operations
• Recording and entering operational data into SCADA
• Maintaining plant grounds and facility cleanliness
• Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment
• Operating pumps, motors, generators, lift stations, and treatment systems
• Monitoring SCADA and emergency bypass pumping
• Cleaning and calibrating chemical feed systems and flow meters
• Collecting, analyzing, and reporting water and wastewater samples
• Preparing MoDNR monthly operating reports and internal data records
• Performing data evaluation, archiving, and housekeeping
• Assisting with snow removal and responding to emergencies
• Promoting positive customer service and public relations
Operator III may also:
• Lead daily operations in the absence of supervisory staff
• Review operational and laboratory data for permit compliance
• Assist with training new operators
• Oversee small crews and coordinate tasks
• Support project planning, contractor coordination, and capital improvements
Operator in Training:
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Missouri driver's license (or ability to obtain)
• Ability to obtain a Missouri Class D Treatment Certification within 1 year
Operator I:
• High school diploma or GED
• 1–2 years of relevant experience or completion of apprenticeship/internship
• Valid Missouri driver's license (or ability to obtain)
• Possession of a Missouri Class D Treatment Certification (water, wastewater, or distribution)
• Willingness to test for higher MoDNR certifications when eligible
Operator II:
• High school diploma or GED
• 2–5 years of related experience
• Valid Missouri driver's license
• Missouri Class C or Class B Treatment Certification
• Commitment to testing for the highest certification level eligible
Operator III:
• High school diploma or GED
• 6+ years of experience in water/wastewater treatment
• Valid Missouri driver's license
• Missouri Class A Treatment Certification in Water, Wastewater, or Distribution
• Commitment to pursuing highest MoDNR certification level available
Successful candidates should also have:
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and perform physical tasks
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
