What You Will Do

As a Utilities Mechanic I you will assist in the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems within the County. Working under the direction of a supervisor you will perform equipment repairs maintenance and replacement. The work you do will support safe and efficient operations in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain troubleshoot and repair equipment and components associated with water treatment systems and facilities. Install new and replacement equipment and components.
  • Coordinate major equipment repair with vendors and contractors. Assist with work as required.
  • Assist in the operation of water treatment systems facilities and specialized equipment as required.
  • Maintain vehicles equipment and tools.
  • Collect samples compile data and complete routine paperwork including logs and reports.
  • Maintain parts and hardware inventory.
  • Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean orderly and safe work environment.
  • Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

  • Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid drivers license
  • Maryland Temporary Operator Class 4 Water Treatment or must obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Maryland Operator Class 4 Water Treatment Plant license or must obtain within 3 years of employment
  • Department of Transportation DOT physical card
  • Additional Information
  • Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
  • Will be required to work outside of standard hours.
  • May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.
  • Working Conditions
  • Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions including but not limited to chemicals noise and airborne particles.
  • Frequent physical activity lifting and carrying over 50lbs climbing ladders and steps standingwalking pushingpulling bending reaching squatting stooping kneeling and related activities.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
