Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to monitor the Citys daily water operations. This is accomplished by monitoring the weather to ensure that adequate amounts of water are available during periods of adverse weather conditions and assisting with water production. Other duties include controlling water tank levels; responding to citizens concerns; communicating with other departments; handling work orders and interacting with other City employees and the general public.

Essential Job Functions

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.

  • This position has responsibilities that require lifting up to 10 pounds on occasion.

  • Responds to internal/external customer calls by dispatching calls/relaying information to the appropriate department; communicating with all other departments to ensure resolution to issues; interacting with the billing department when there is no receipt of payment and transmitting work orders to appropriate departments.

  • Monitors the Citys water production by documenting water as it is purchased, used, and consumed; and monitoring the weather to determine whether Water/Wastewater sites require service due to adverse weather conditions.

  • Completes work orders by using a computer program to create work orders/service requests; printing the journal log of the shift's calls, work orders & service requests.

  • Ensures security by monitoring water levels at the Water sites, and vaults on a 24-hour basis; communicating important information to relief personnel; monitoring gate access and contacting the police department in the event of a security breach.

  • Provides administrative support by maintaining records on distribution of on-call phones to appropriate staff; notifying supervisors of on-call phones not picked up and maintaining a key log for water/wastewater sites checked out by outside contractors.

  • Receives email and phone requests from contractors and/ or other City departments working in the Citys Right-of-Way to have water, sewer and fiber utilities identified and marked.

  • Coordinates with Engineering Inspectors to schedule water turn on/offs, project walk-thrus and inspections of new construction of water mains and sewer lines. Generating work orders for Streets Maintenance to complete utility cuts related to streets, sidewalks and driveways as a consequence to water and sewer repairs initiated by Water Utilities.

  • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.

  • Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • Education: High school diploma and GED.

  • Experience: 1-2 years of related experience.

  • Licenses: Valid Drivers License required.

  • Certifications Required: None.
