The Water Valve Technician is responsible for field inspections, diagnostics, and maintenance of water distribution valves as part of an infrastructure assessment project. This role will involve locating, exercising (open & close), and evaluating the water valves and documenting the conditions for municipal reporting.

Responsibilities:
- Locate water valves using GIS mapping and utility locators
- Clean out valve boxes and remove debris as needed
- Exercise valves (open/close) using manual tools or hydraulic equipment
- Perform valve condition assessments (turns, torque, operability)
- Assist with hydrant flushing and bacis line isolation testing
- Document findings, including GPS data, photos, and condition reports
- Report damage or non-operational valves for repair follow-up
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE and traffic control requirements
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand tools
- Ability to work outdoors and in all weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting, bending, and performing field labor
- Experience with water distribution systems or valves is preferred
- Prior valve exercising or utility inspection experience is preferred
- TWIC card
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- TCEQ water license (preferred for municipal work)
- Experience working with GIS or digital field data systems
