Dutchess County Water & Wastewater Authority (DCWWA) is seeking a motivated individual for an entry level, no experience necessary, water & wastewater system laborer position. Position reports to various locations as field assignments require, within the limits of Dutchess County.
Training opportunities for the right individual could lead to Water & Wastewater Operator Certifications.

40 Hour work week (potential for overtime, may be required to work outside normal work week, evenings, weekends,
holidays.)
Laborer position is a Non-competitive position under the NYS Civil Service Classification system and is not subject to a
competitive exam.
The position is eligible for annual salary increases based on merit for the first nine years if performance is found to be fully
satisfactory. The first eligibility for a merit increase will be January 1, 2024. The position is eligible for longevity increases after
the completion of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service. Cost of living increases are determined annually by the
Authoritys Board of Directors and are not guaranteed.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks subject to water distribution system maintenance.
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks subject to wastewater treatment and collection system maintenance.
Water distribution system service line flushing, exercising of valves, water main location and repair work.
Manually excavates and backfills for curb valve or sewer line repairs.
Construction and pavement repairs; rakes and shovels asphalt to patch potholes.
Assists in cleaning sewers, catch basins and in laying pipe and building catch basins.
Performs a variety of unskilled maintenance and cleaning tasks.
May perform required water and wastewater regulatory sampling.
May perform a variety of groundskeeping tasks including cutting grass, trimming shrubs and trees, raking leaves,
cutting brush, tree planting, removal, weed cutting, etc.
May participate in snow and ice control activities.
May assist in the maintenance and repair of buildings, other structures, and facilities.
May use hand and power tools to perform work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to perform routine physical work; ability to lift heavy weights; ability to follow oral instructions; willingness to work
under all weather conditions; sobriety; physical endurance; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the
position.
Possession of a New York State driver license at time of appointment and to maintain position.
Must be 18 years old.
High School diploma or equivalent
