Specific duties include but are not limited to: • Read water meters including meters at private residences businesses and pools. • Perform test and repairs to water meters rebuilding meters as necessary. Maintain accurate records of repairs. • Replace water meters by department-set schedule and also as needed! • Assist the Water Meter Technician in all aspects of reading maintenance and repair of water meters. • Handle and resolve customer concerns and complains which requires good public service skills! • Perform backflow surveys and inspections of new and existing installations. • Maintain state certifications through participation in appropriate trainings and workshops! Note: This position is subject to recall and stand-by duty during non-regular working hours weekends and holidays. Employee should be able to respond within 60 minutes to staff the work site depending on weather conditions. In addition once a commercial driver's license (CDL) is obtained this position is subject to federal CDL drug and alcohol requirements. Pay and Benefits: During the 6-month probationary period the pay range for this position is $17.92- $19.57 per hour. Upon successful completion of the probationary period this position will move to the regular pay schedule which consists of pay steps and hourly rates ranging from $19.59- $23.01 per hour depending on experience. A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with tank endorsement and air brakes is required within eighteen (18) months of employment! Grade I NH Water Distribution Certificate and Grade I Wastewater Collection Certificate are both desired. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Read water meters; including meters at private residences; businesses; and pools.

Perform test and repairs to water meters; rebuilding meters; as necessary. Maintain accurate records of repairs.

Replace water meters; by department-set schedule and as needed.

Perform water service shut-offs.

Handle and resolve customer concerns and complaints. This requires good public service skills.

Be on-call and available for water and/or sewer work; as scheduled.

Maintain state certifications through participation in appropriate training workshops.

Coordinate with Finance Department on billing and customer issues.

Note: Among the power tools and heavy equipment generally used by this position are lawn mower; chain saw; jackhammer; pipe saw; cement mixer; sidewalk plow; snow blower; one-ton truck; large dump trucks; street sweeper; curb machine; asphalt roller; crack sealing equipment; brush chipper; and brush saw. Also used are pay loaders and backhoes.

Note: This position is subject to stand-by duty and call-back during non-regular working hours; weekends; and holidays. In addition; this position is subject to federally mandated random drug testing. Position should be able to respond within 30 minutes (depending on weather conditions) to staff the work site.

Assist crews in repair of water main breaks and sewer stoppages; as needed

Other duties and responsibilities as directed by Supervisor.

Customers

Water and Sewer employees and the public.

A. Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to twelve months' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

B. Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; short correspondence; and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to customers; clients; and other employees of the organization.

C. Computer Skills

Acquire a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Must be able to download meter guns and upload new routes. Ability to program computerized meter reading guns. Familiarity with Pentamation and Revenue Management System (RMS) software.

D. Mathematical Skills

Ability to add; subtract; multiply; and divide in all units of measure; using whole numbers; common fractions; and decimals. Ability to compute rate; ratio; and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

E. Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written; oral; diagram; or schedule form.

F. Certificates; Licenses; Registrations

Be able to obtain a valid NH commercial driver's license (CDL) with tank endorsement and air brakes; required within three months of employment.

Grade I NH Water Distribution Certificate; desired.

Grade I Wastewater Collection Certificate; desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and smell. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level is moderate. This position frequently involves work in outdoor weather conditions. There is occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions fumes or airborne particles extreme cold and extreme heat. Outdoor weather conditions may vary depending on the season.
