Job Title: Wealth Navigator

Department: Journey to Wealth

Program: Financial Empowerment Services

Reports to: Program Director

Position Supervised: N/A

Employment Class: Full-time/Exempt/Regular

Workdays: Monday through Friday

Customary Hours: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM(*Hours are extended when workload is increased.)

Position Summary

The Wealth Navigator provides counseling for multiple wealth building activities including assistance with money management, budgeting, reducing debt, establishing, and improving credit, connecting to safe and affordable banking services, building savings, home buyer education and referrals to other services and organizations.

Additionally, the Housing Counselor will need the skill set to present and facilitate workshops related to the curriculum of HUD approved Home Buyer Education courses, and supportive training programs such as, Smart Money Moves for Journey to Wealth, Rent Smart for Housing Accelerator.

The Columbus Urban League Financial Empowerment program is comprised of specialized, experienced Wealth Management professionals that work closely with our clients; unbanked/underbanked, to bankable to develop and implement strategies to grow, protect and perpetuate their financial, intellectual, and human capital through counseling expertise, personalized action planning and leveraging relationships with our partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ability to articulate the mission, objectives, and programs of the Columbus Urban League.
  • Develop and lead group training and financial literacy workshops.
  • Coordinate and teach workshops to educate potential home buyers seeking financial assistance and guidance through the home buying process.
  • Conduct individual and group financial coaching sessions (in person, via phone or online).
  • Assess clients’ needs via comprehensive intake and assessment of the client financial circumstances.
  • Pull, review, and understand credit reports to assist program clients.
  • Assist with the preparation of credit bureau dispute letters and settlement letters for program clients.
  • Assisting clients with financial budget and savings plan development.
  • Developing a Financial Action Plan for each client.
  • Entering client data into client management system CounselorMax.
  • Tracking spreadsheets.
  • Meet all grant outcome goals.
  • Follow required protocol and program requirements.
  • Support the effective delivery of services and ensure client services, documentation and data collection are accurate and compliant with funding and or contract requirements.
  • Provide counseling to individuals in the areas of budget and credit preparation to obtain/maintain safe, decent, and affordable housing.
  • Enter all required client documentation into client management system in a timely manner as required by agency and HUD standards.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports regarding performance and client outcomes.

Required Experience:

Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Financial Capability, Human Services or other related field of study required.
  • Preferred HUD certified, however if selected applicant has three (3) months and/or two attempts to complete the HUD Certified Housing Counselor certification.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain other certifications as necessary.

Experience:

  • Three to five years of experience in housing counseling, knowledge of the financial sector (i.e. banking, mortgage etc.) and/or human services.
  • Knowledge of money management, budgeting, reducing debt, establishing, and improving credit.
  • Minimum three years of relevant work experience with some background in financial education, counseling/teaching, coaching, or social services delivery.
  • Knowledgeable, or the ability and desire to want to learn about credit, debt, and money management, savings, wealth creation opportunities and banking options.

  • Ability to work with individuals from all backgrounds with varying needs

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (MS Suite, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Commitment to compliance and ethical standards
  • Experience with videoconferencing systems (e.g., Webex, Zoom, Teams, etc.)

Time Management and Organization:

  • Ensures accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across all tasks
  • Works independently with the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Manages workload effectively and delivers results in a timely manner

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low.
  • The employee is required to occasionally travel to different work sites and community events as needed.
  • Professional business attire and appearance required.
