Weatherization Assistant Production Manager

Overview

The Weatherization Assistant Production Manager is a hands-on, working field leader who reports to the Weatherization Production Manager and helps lead the daily operations of Total Home Performance's Weatherization Department. This position works actively alongside Weatherization Crew Leaders and crews in the field while helping ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with THP standards and applicable state-funded weatherization program requirements. Must be bi-lingual for this role.

This is not solely a supervisory position. The Assistant Production Manager is expected to perform weatherization and building-performance work as needed while providing day-to-day leadership, technical support, training, quality control, and problem-solving for multiple crews.

Key Responsibilities

• Work actively in the field alongside Weatherization Crew Leaders and Technicians, performing weatherization and building-performance work as needed.

• Assist the Weatherization Production Manager with the daily direction and oversight of multiple crews, job assignments, workflow, scheduling, and field priorities.

• Serve as a hands-on resource to Crew Leaders, helping troubleshoot job-site issues and keeping crews productive and on schedule.

• Assist with and provide technical guidance on insulation, air sealing, ventilation, moisture control, health and safety measures, and other weatherization work.

• Conduct field inspections and quality checks to ensure workmanship, safety, scope compliance, and adherence to THP and program requirements.

• Identify workmanship or performance issues and work directly with crews to correct problems, reduce callbacks, and prevent failed inspections.

• Train, coach, and develop Crew Leaders and Technicians through hands-on instruction and reinforcement of proper installation techniques and production expectations.

• Review work orders, photos, testing results, measurements, material usage, and required program documentation for accuracy and completion.

• Help ensure crews have the materials, tools, equipment, vehicles, and information necessary to complete jobs efficiently.

• Assist with monitoring crew productivity, labor hours, material usage, job progress, and overall field efficiency.

• Ensure corrective and punch-list work is completed promptly, documented, verified, and properly closed out.

• Follow procedures for maintaining required NREL badges, certifications, and other weatherization program credentials.

• Enforce THP safety policies and OSHA requirements and immediately address unsafe work practices or job-site conditions.

• Communicate professionally with customers and internal staff regarding job progress, scheduling, workmanship, and field concerns.

• Support the Weatherization Production Manager with employee performance, staffing needs, department planning, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and able to effectively communicate, train, and provide direction in both languages.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in weatherization, building performance, insulation, residential construction, energy efficiency, or a related trade preferred.

• Strong hands-on knowledge of insulation, air sealing, ventilation, moisture control, and residential building science.

• Crew Leader, Lead Technician, Foreman, or other field-leadership experience strongly preferred.

• Willingness and ability to work physically alongside crews while also providing leadership and direction.

• BPI certification and/or experience with state, federal, utility, or income-qualified weatherization programs preferred.

• Ability to inspect work, identify quality issues, troubleshoot field problems, and coach employees toward improved performance.

• Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

• Current U.S. work authorization. No sponsorship available.

• Ability to regularly work in attics, crawl spaces, basements, and other confined or physically demanding residential environments, with or without reasonable accommodation.
