Our client, a software development firm, is looking for a Web Application Developer to help build applications that support mission-critical government and defense operations. This is a frontend-focused role for someone who wants to solve complex problems and build tools that enable data-driven decision-making for public sector clients. On-site 4-5 days/week.
You'll work on products that integrate and visualize large datasets, powering workflows like common operating pictures, alert-triaging inboxes, and resource allocation planning tools. These are systems relied on daily for real operations, so the bar for quality, usability, and reliability is high.
What You'll Do:
- Architect and build interfaces that make sophisticated, data-intensive workflows approachable, including for non-technical users
- Work directly with users to understand their needs and identify product gaps
- Collaborate with teammates on UX for intricate, high-stakes workflows
- Scope technical solutions and find incremental paths to shipping new features
- Own APIs and schemas powering your frontend work, partnering closely with backend engineers
- Get hands-on with a range of technical challenges: mapping/visualization, real-time collaboration, performance optimization, and complex state management
Tech Stack: TypeScript and React, with a component library for shared UI patterns, plus a mix of open-source and internal tooling. Standard CI/CD tooling for build, test, and deploy.
Requirements (Dealbreakers):
- Has built complex frontend applications: data-intensive UIs, real-time collaborative tools, mapping/visualization, or systems where multiple apps interact
- Has owned or shipped projects/features independently through the full product lifecycle (design, ship, maintain)
- BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- U.S. Citizen, eligible to obtain a security clearance
Baseline Expectations:
- 2-5 years of frontend or full-stack software engineering experience with strong CS fundamentals
- Experience at a Big Tech company or a high-bar startup
- Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, and JavaScript
- Based in or willing to relocate to Washington, D.C.
Nice to Have:
- Experience or strong interest in defense or government technology
- Founder experience, significant open-source contributions, or strong extracurricular involvement (campus clubs, hackathons, side projects)
