The Drupal Developer will support and enhance a large-scale Drupal multisite platform serving Maine state agencies. This role is critical to maintaining platform stability, resolving issues, and ensuring accessibility compliance across various websites.
This position includes a significant focus on maintenance and support work, along with contributing to new feature development and platform improvements within a standardized Drupal environment.
This is a hybrid working role which requires 3 days, onsite, in office per week.
Responsibilities
- Write efficient, reusable, and well-documented code aligned with Drupal best practices.
- Participate in peer code reviews, providing technical validation and feedback.
- Perform ongoing maintenance and support:
- Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, incidents, and defects
- Implement accessibility fixes aligned with WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 standards
- Address content, configuration, and theming issues
- Develop and maintain Drupal 9/10/11 sites in a multisite architecture
- Build, enhance, and maintain Drupal features including custom modules, themes, reusable components, and configurations.
- Implement frontend solutions using Twig (required), SCSS, and JavaScript
- Create and modify Twig templates (nodes, paragraphs, views, layouts)
- Use preprocess functions to structure data for frontend rendering
- Support deployments using Acquia Cloud and CI/CD pipelines
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and other developers to deliver new site components, fixes, and enhancements.
- Contribute to platform improvements that reduce recurring maintenance issues
- Track and manage work in JIRA
Qualifications
- Strong experience with Drupal (custom modules, hooks, services, configuration management)
- Proficiency in PHP and Drupal APIs
Required:
- Hands-on experience with Twig templating
- Experience with Drupal theming and preprocess functions
- Solid frontend development skills (HTML, SCSS/CSS, JavaScript)
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving production issues
- Familiarity with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience working in multisite or multi-environment architectures
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 or higher)
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience in maintenance-heavy or support-driven environments
- Familiarity with Paragraphs, Layout Builder, and component-based development
- Experience with Acquia Cloud hosting
- Experience supporting enterprise or government platforms
- Ability to identify root causes and implement long-term fixes
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, ticket-driven environment with a mix of maintenance and project work
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams including QA, project management, and other developers
- Structured release and deployment processes
Additional Information:
- This role includes a high volume of maintenance and support work
- Candidates should be comfortable managing multiple concurrent tasks and priorities
- Emphasis is placed on quality, reliability, and adherence to established processes
