Weekend News Editor, CNBC

CNBC is seeking a sharp, experienced Weekend Editor to help lead coverage during a critical part of the news cycle. This editor will work on our newly revamped homepage Thursday through Sunday, driving fast, authoritative coverage of the biggest business, markets, technology and economic stories of the weekend.

The ideal candidate possesses excellent news judgment and can quickly identify the most important angle and help shape coverage as stories develop. They will be a strong story editor, able to work with a rotating cast of reporters from across the newsroom to sharpen reporting, develop compelling angles and ensure CNBC delivers the journalism its audience needs. This person should be a self-starter with a genuine passion for business news and the subjects CNBC covers. They should thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom and bring deep curiosity about the companies, people and economic forces shaping the news.

What You'll Do

• Lead and drive CNBC's weekend editorial coverage from Thursday through Sunday.
• Identify and execute coverage of the most important stories, angles and developments as news breaks.
• Curate and manage CNBC's new homepage, making real-time decisions about story placement, prioritization and presentation to build visually compelling coverage.
• Edit stories across a wide range of topics, including business, markets, technology, the economy and policy.
• Work with reporters to sharpen story angles, strengthen reporting and draw out the most consequential news from interviews, events and developing situations.
• Help set coverage priorities and coordinate with editors, reporters and platform teams across CNBC.
• Balance breaking-news coverage with opportunities for smart analysis, explainers and enterprise reporting.
• Ensure stories are accurate, clear, timely and distinctive.
• Identify opportunities to extend major weekend stories across CNBC's digital, television, video and social platforms.
• Maintain CNBC's high standards for editorial judgment, writing and accuracy under deadline pressure.

This role is based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and reports to CNBC Digital's Deputy Managing Editor.

• 5+ years of editing experience in a fast-paced digital or broadcast newsroom.
• Excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to lead coverage during breaking and developing news situations.
• Strong story-editing, writing and headline-writing skills.
• Broad knowledge of business, markets, technology, the economy and policy.
• Proven ability to develop compelling story angles and help reporters produce distinctive journalism.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, work calmly under deadline pressure and make clear editorial decisions.
• Availability to work a Thursday through Sunday schedule.

Desired Characteristics

• Experience editing business or financial news.
• Experience working across digital, video and social platforms.
• Experience working with content-management systems and homepage publishing tools.
• Familiarity with audience analytics and an understanding of how audience behavior can inform editorial presentation.
• Strong understanding of CNBC's audience, editorial standards and coverage priorities.
• A demonstrated ability to generate original story ideas and find overlooked angles in major news events.
