Scope of Responsibility:

The Weld Tech is responsible for ensuring that all parts, sections and/or poles meet standards set forth by design requirements. The Weld Tech inspects welded joints and conducts tests to ensure welds meet Company established standards, national code requirements, and customer specifications. The Weld Tech will assist with the application of new or improved welding equipment, welding techniques, procedures and practices.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs all inspection functions, including but not limited to: UT, MT, and Visual weld inspections
  • Corrects operation of welding equipment and welder operating techniques
  • Ensures that all documentation is accurately and neatly completed
  • Works closely with Manufacturing Management to efficiently solve welding and/or welder issues
  • Communicates clearly and concisely via email, text, or verbally
  • Ensures that all Quality Control Inspectors are complying with Company established quality standards.
  • Trains production & quality staff on Company established welding processes/techniques and assists with development of new weld processes and techniques
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • High School/GED preferred, but not required
  • Three years minimum of welding experience in GMAW, FCAW, SAW or SMAW
  • ASNT-TC-1A, Level II in both UT and MT disciplines preferred, VT a plus
  • Strong understanding of welding fundamentals with 3 years practical experience
  • Ability to read and interpret National and Sabre Tubular Structures Codes, Standards and Specifications
  • Ability to effectively read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols
  • Ability to accurately verify all parts to print using a tape measure
  • Must possess effective communication skills to motivate and direct employees
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to efficiently input and retrieve information from PC based information systems
  • Regular and timely attendance is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform work functions while standing for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, push pry and drag heavy materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to reach, grasp, bend, stoop, crawl under or climb over to inspect product.
  • Position is in a manufacturing environment. Environment could be noisy, dusty and will vary in temperature.
  • Proper protective safety equipment is required.
  • Must be able to pass the Jaeger 2 test and distinguish between red or yellow.
