The non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and the contract’s collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f), unless otherwise modified by a CBA between labor and management.

 

Job Summary

Requires ability to weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as MTESC MTE, machine parts, equipment, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. This worker welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, positions, and clamps together components of fabricated metal products in preparation for welding.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Performs inspection of containers to identify necessary repairs.
  • Retrieve defective containers identified by a Yellow Tag and relocate to Pre-Repair Inspection Area
  • Determines repair part needs and retrieves repair spare parts from the secure Parts Cage/Bulk Parts Storage area.
  • Maintain equipment and tooling to include welders, tools, tray rivet machines, and other associated welding and repair equipment and parts.

 

Marginal Functions:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures.

 

Working Conditions

  • Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, and other potential allergens.
  • Frequent, short duration (>30 min) exposure to the elements i.e. weather variations
  • Occasional, extended duration (<30 min) exposure to the elements i.e. weather variations

 

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Frequent bending, standing, walking, sitting, climbing.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools, welder, equipment, computer and peripherals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner with senior level staff and customers.
  • Use of appropriate PPE i.e. , face shield, welding helmet, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, flame-resisting clothing.
  • Use of appropriate hand tools i.e. welder, hammer, screwdriver, pry bar, wrenches, plyers, etc.
  • Perform general housekeeping functions for a safe work environment.
