Summary
Under limited supervision, the Welder/Fabricator performs skilled welding, fabrication, modification, and structural repair work on heavy construction equipment, attachments, trailers, and related components. This position is responsible for producing quality repairs and fabricated products that meet Company and manufacturer standards while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, and workmanship.
Essential Functions
- Follow the direction of the Service Manager and Assistant Service Manager while performing work safely and efficiently.
- Perform structural welding, fabrication, and repairs on heavy construction equipment, attachments, buckets, trailers, and related components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, service manuals, and work orders to complete assigned projects.
- Fabricate replacement parts and components when original parts are unavailable or require modification.
- Inspect damaged equipment and determine appropriate repair methods while communicating findings to supervisors.
- Operate welding and fabrication equipment, including MIG, TIG, stick welders, oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, presses, grinders, and other shop equipment.
- Measure, cut, fit, align, and assemble metal components to required specifications and tolerances.
- Perform repairs using proper welding procedures and ensure finished work meets quality and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper care and maintenance of welding equipment and tools.
- Complete timecards, work order stories, and required documentation accurately and promptly to support customer billing.
- Submit parts requisitions and material requests necessary to complete assigned work.
- Assist Service Technicians with fabrication and welding needs during equipment repairs as required.
- Participate in required safety meetings, training programs, and manufacturer or technical training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel throughout Alaska, often with little advance notice, to perform welding and fabrication work at Company branches, customer locations, and remote job sites. Work independently or as part of a field service team while maintaining Company safety and quality standards.

Education and Experience
Within the last 10 years:
a. Five years of experience in welding, metal fabrication, structural steel repair, heavy equipment repair, or a closely related field.
OR
b. Any combination of education, technical training, certifications, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS welding certification or the ability to obtain certification.
- Experience with heavy construction equipment, mining equipment, trailers, or industrial fabrication.
- Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers. This position is physically demanding and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching, and working in confined or awkward positions throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing 50 pounds or more and occasionally heavier materials with appropriate lifting equipment. The employee will regularly work around welding arcs, sparks, fumes, noise, heat, and moving machinery and must wear required personal protective equipment. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
