Our client is looking to bring on a Welder/Fitter. Our client is a manufacturer of aftermarket, OEM, and custom tanks for various vehicles including school buses, semi-trucks, fire trucks, and construction vehicles. They provide a wide range of products including diesel fuel tanks, hydraulic tanks, and custom-made tanks.
The Welder/Fitter is responsible for fitting and welding custom diesel fuel tanks and hydraulic reservoirs, primarily in 12-gauge steel and 1/8" aluminum. The ideal candidate can accurately read and interpret prints, fit components to tight tolerances, and produce clean, aesthetically pleasing welds that meet both structural and cosmetic quality standards
Job Duties:
- Fit and assemble diesel fuel tank and hydraulic reservoir components per engineering drawings and print specifications
- Perform MIG welding on 12-gauge steel and 1/8" aluminum materials.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Produce welds that meet both structural integrity requirements and visual/cosmetic quality standards.
- Verify dimensional accuracy and squareness of fitted assemblies prior to and during welding.
- Inspect completed welds for defects (porosity, undercut, spatter, etc.) and perform touch-up as needed.
- Select appropriate welding parameters, filler material, and technique based on material type and thickness.
- Maintain and perform basic upkeep of welding equipment; report equipment issues promptly.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE use, ventilation practices, and safe handling of gas cylinders.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area in accordance with 5S/housekeeping standards.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and quality initiatives (ISO 9001:2015).
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of MIG welding experience.
- Demonstrated ability to weld steel and aluminum (12ga steel / 1/8" aluminum experience preferred)
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, prints, and weld symbols.
- Strong fitting skills with attention to dimensional accuracy and fit-up quality.
- Ability to produce visually clean, consistent welds ("aesthetically pleasing") in addition to structurally sound welds.
- Understanding of proper welding techniques for tank/pressure vessel or liquid-containment applications a plus.
