Welder Fitter
Department: Production Welding Reports To: Lead Hand / Operations Manager Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Welder/Fitter to join our team. This role involves fabricating and assembling metal components using various welding techniques and fitting skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, experience with blueprint reading, and proficiency with a range of tools and machinery. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for manufacturing, construction, and metalwork to contribute to high-quality projects in a dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions
Use hand tools, power tools, calipers, and other measuring instruments to ensure precision in fabrication
Operate plasma cutters, press brake machines, and other fabrication equipment to shape materials
Rigging and positioning materials or equipment using cranes or forklifts as needed
Assemble fabricated parts into final products or structures following safety standards and specifications
Conduct quality inspections using calipers and other measurement tools to verify dimensions and tolerances
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols related to welding, machining, and construction activities
Assist in troubleshooting fabrication issues and recommend improvements for efficiency and safety
General Shop Duties
Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area
Perform routine maintenance on tools
Safety
Follow all workplace safety rules and procedures
Always Use appropriate PPE (steel-toe boots, welding helmet, gloves, etc.)
Report any hazards, incidents, or near misses to the supervisor
Comply with all company safety policies and government regulations (e.g., OHSA in Ontario)
Qualifications:
Proven experience in welding within a manufacturing or construction setting
Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read blueprints, schematics, and assembly instructions
Familiarity with rigging, crane operation, forklift handling, and basic machining processes
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, calipers, plasma cutting equipment, press brake machines, and welding equipment
Knowledge of assembly processes, schematics interpretation, and construction practices is a plus
Ability to perform basic math calculations relevant to fabrication tasks
Excellent attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work safely around industrial equipment while maintaining high-quality standards
Physical capability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods during shifts
Work Environment:
Industrial shop environment with moderate to high noise levels.
Exposure to hot surfaces, sharp edges, and metal debris.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or bend for periods during assembly tasks
Required use of CSA-approved personal protective equipment (PPE):
