Overview

A welder assembles, repairs, andd fabriates metal structures using specialized welding techniques while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings to understand project specifications.

  • Measuring, cutting, and shaping metial components using hand tools, plasma cutters, and metail cutting machines.

  • Applying welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, Stick, and arc welding to join metla parts.

  • Setting up, operating and maintaining welding equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Inspecting and testing welds to ensure compliance with design requirements, safety standards, and structural reliabililty.

  • Applying knowledge of metallurgy and material properties to select appropriate welding methods.

  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, following OSHA and other safety protocols.

  • Collaborating with other trades such as electricans, general laborers, and engineers on projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training in welding highly preferred.

  • Certifications: Professional credentials from recognized organization like American Welding Society (AWS); including Certified Welder (CW).

  • Experience: Hands-on welding experience from previous jobs or apprenticeships is required. High Proficiency in aluminum TIG welding.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in various welding techniques, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication.

  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and use of protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and boots.

  • Physical Abilities: Ability to work in high-hear, noisy, or outdoor environments, sometimes in challenging conditions.

  • Personal Traits: Attention to detial, steadyhand, patience, and the ability to adpapt to changing working conditions.
