Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Welder (Part-Time) in the Department of Public Works. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision, performs skilled welding tasks involved in maintaining, repairing, modifying and fabricating equipment, vehicles, tools and machinery, and performs related duties as required.

Position Details:

  • This is a part-time, PERS eligible position.
  • The work schedule will consist of an average of 29 hours/week. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department needs.
  • This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits (other than PERS), wage increases, or union representation.
  • External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, vocational school or the equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in welding and repairing equipment, vehicles, tools and machinery. The successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program as a welder may substitute for two (2) years of the five (5) year experience requirement
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must be certified in welding through the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 specifications in TIG, MIG and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) to the 3G, 4G, 3F and 4F positions at time of application

  • The ability to bank holidays, up to 228 hours, that fall on an employee's regularly scheduled day off

WORK WEEK

  • Four-day, 9.5-hour workday, 38-hour work week

  • Uniform Allowance - $85.00 per month to employees required to wear a uniform, or $115.00 if required to wear fire retardant clothing
